Out this month. It covers rare and hard to find minimal wave, electro pop, new wave, disco and avant-garde pieces from the vaults of Yugoslavia's biggest socialist label Jugoton. The co-curator of the release Zeljko Luketic is now working on the next compilation for Dark Entries Records (USA).
In 2012, Croatian film and music critic Zeljko Luketic and producer Viseslav Labos took over the task to research the vast archives of Jugoton. They were focused on all the music works that had innovative, modernist or stylistically dominant use of synthesizers or any other electronic music equipment. The result is November 2014 release of Electronic Jugoton – Synthetic Music From Yugoslavia 1964-1989, a 2CD compilation of 47 tracks. Included are the songs ranging from pop to new wave, instrumentals from the avant-garde, rare promotional records and even snippets from the spoken word and children stories that used electronics in exciting and modern way. Some of the 7’’ singles included are already well-known among synth and minimal wave enthusiasts who have to pay ridiculous prices for it on eBay and Discogs. Bands like Beograd, Data, The Master Scratch Band, Dorian Gray, Denis & Denis, Du Du A, Borghesia and D’Boys are some of the
playlist favourites, along with the work of artists like Igor Savin, Zdenka Kovacicek, Sladjana Milosevic, Milka Lenac, Amila and many, many more. Six tracks have been never released, most of them were never published on CD. All the tracks are remastered from original Jugoton studio tapes. Electronic Jugoton – Synthetic Music From Yugoslavia 1964-1989 is published on limited edition 2CD package, containing 20-page booklet with all the covers of original releases and extensive liner notes covering the significance and history of the artist/song included. This limited edition is made in 500 copies only.
