Re: Jazz

speaking of  Pekka Airaksinen
Modern Feeling is a project he was involved in

Re: Jazz

(guess mulatu is almost mainstream nowadays)

Re: Jazz

@coae - Mulatu - After his music got into Jim Jarmusch soundtracks he become kind of mainstream, but it doesn't take nothing from his music
He is great. Saw him playing live a few years ago...

Hieroglyphic Being & J.I.T.U. Ahn-Sahm-Buhl album is very good

Re: Jazz

The Healing Force Project fella does some far out jazzy techno shit as well.

i see, didn't know that. there was a news feature a while back about Ethiopian jazz here in swe.
good for him/ agree it doesn't take nothing from his music. good music is good music.
although its a bit annoying in a strange way.

been hearing some stuff lately on tv that would be more likely to hear on ifm,
think i heard The Taking of Pelham 123 a while back. last night it was something about syria and the end credits was.

Re: Jazz

Saw Carlos Nino live yesterday, with Jamire Williams on drums and Johs Johnson on saxofone. Totally spaced out jazz improvisations, really really loved it. Go check out Carlos Nino records on Leaving Records, Porter Records or Kindred Spirits if you haven't already. Really deep, moving, spiritual jazz material, with plenty of electronix action.

Re: Jazz

Herbie Hancock with a freaked out techno jazz album in the early 70s. Supercool.

Didn't really get this Squarepusher album when it was released, makes much more sense now. Sounds like a hommage to experimental jazz/fusion of the 70s, one of Tom Jenkinsons albums that is really worth dusting off.

Re: Jazz

I have that Squarepusher album too! Haven't listened to it for over a decade, might be time as you said.

Re: Jazz

Good seeing you back here on the forum Starborough btw! smile

Re: Jazz

Thanks Techni. Was really missing the board, much nicer place to hang around and chat about music than facebook imo.

Re: Jazz

I agree, there is somewhat less noise here. Even when there are other topics than music being discussed, somehow the format makes it more focused. Facebook is more of a blur.

Re: Jazz

From Charlie Haden's album Closeness, that also has great duets with Keith Jarret and Ornette Coleman.
Love the combination of double bass and Alice Coltrane's harp in this one.
