Re: What concert you've visited lately?

I just saw a concert by Supershirt (Audiolith) tonight and I found it funny. I have some nice glow-in-the-dark sticks as souvenir. big_smile

Went to see Arthur's Landing at Public Assembly. They are members of Arthur Russell's studio band and friends playing his tracks.

Then we went to the Loft on Sunday night, but David Mancuso hurt his back!
His understudies had to play his records!

Re: What concert you've visited lately?

How was Arthur's Landing?

Heil CBS

It was pretty good. There were about 10 people in the band, and lots of instruments on stage. They played about 4-5 songs and really jammed out. My only complaint was with the sound system, the vocals were drowned out and a speaker was blown, which was murder on my ears. Not exactly a disco band, the composition was more like a collision of a chamber music quartet, a jazz quartet, and a couple more random musicians. Among others, the original percussionists and trombonist (from Kiss Me Again) were there, you could recognize some of their playing from the tracks. I would definitely see them again if they were in a better venue. All of them were very experienced musicians, and you could hear it in their noodling, they were practically competing for jam time. The arrangements and interpretations were free, they were not trying to replicate Arthur at all, but to continue in his spirit. It was cool to see, very different.

There's lots of people in the band, and they are older, so I'd imagine they don't tour much, but who knows... I won't say it's worth it to come all the way to NYC for, unless there is something going on... No Ordinary Monkey, for instance...

Saw the 'Pixies' play 'Doolittle' in it's entirity last thursday, can't believe it was the 20th aniversary of the release.
Gig was excellent, they played a load of b-sides from the same era too,  venue was Brixton Academy.

Re: What concert you've visited lately?

Went to Patrick Wolf in Prague 2 days ago. Strange guy. Interesting music though, and he had a synthesizer guy in the band who was into filtering noise. Don't dig the strings too much, though. Violins and rock don't go together well in my ears.

heard good things from people about the gig, but ony 45 minutes???

Last I saw was "slagsmals klubben" (not shure if the name is correct) aka swedish hipsters on synthesizers.
They sucked.
