being homophobic still is a very common phenomenon, depending on age, education and several other circumstances. (i think they are, not you).
then there're special 'estrangement effects' - many in particular men that don't know who they are, some think they are robots...:), etc. there's also that theory that modern feminized education doesn't let boys getting men, etc. difficult issue.
modern men have to be real men BUT as well should be able to show their feelings, etc., many women are a bit desorientated, too, i guess. (regarding how they want a man to be).

i think they felt as being gay if they'd love to dance to disco - they're not sure enough of being real men -
