Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

It's definitely a great record shelf, especially if you use the bug one as a room divider. But I can't recommend putting wheels on it. I tried with the Lack shelf, and while the material can support weight it is not that solid. It works, but it's not 100% reliable. Affixing a plank to the bottom is a good idea, though you might want to use 5 or 6 wheels instead of 4 -- 1 or 2 in the middle.

I raised my expedit (5x5 size, altho with room for my screen in the middle) with poles instead of wheels, 2 on each side and 2 in the middle. They come via Ikea as well. Still standing strong after a year, tho the bottom isn't exactly "waterpas".

Might try the trick with the halve expedit in the future, great idea!

Hm.. Can anybody explain me please what's the point of cutting a big Expedit when Ikea has a 4x2 expedit?

to get the turntables up higher ofcourse

will these work with the decks turned on their side, ie: tone arm situated at the back, power stat/stop etc at front

^^I had actually never considered having the TT in battle position, and the answer is no.. the unit depth is 16" and a technics is nearly 18"... it just don;t quite work, the feet of the deck just hang over. The only person i know who uses 1deck in battle position & 1 in standard...he uses an old ping-pong table to put his decks on, very wobbly smile

Let's get Dumb

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

I just destroyed an unassembled expedit that stubbornly refused to be put together last night, serious fit of rage.

Damn that shit is expensive. Good thing my father in law is a carpenter; he made me 8 boxes that can hold +/- 1.000 records. They're seperate, so easy to move (tho' still heavy, its vinyl). My decks are on top of them.

Honey, in the morning the bees are singing and the birds are stinging in an open head surgery.

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

@byron - shit man. Ive only ever put together a 2x4, I would imagine the others are a pain in the arse. best of luck with the next one.

Im still trying to organise picking up the other table. might have to hire a van and man. hmm hold tight

LOL, I usually try to recruit help for those. I did destroy an entertainment center that was being difficult. The store let me return it though.

nothing to do with the expedit per se, but i thinnk that i'm in need of a serious fit of furniture-wrecking rage myself these days. don't want to lose my deposit from my friendly & accomodating landlady though, so i'll probably just pussy out in the end...

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

hahaha. that'll show 'em.

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

There's another IKEA system suitable for records: Bonde. It's more expensive though.
Here's our livingroom with approx. 8500 records. I had to exchange the bottom with a self made bottom, to win 1,5 cm. Just enough to just put another row on top of it :-)  Some LACK spots completes it nicely.

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

I had Bonde 2 x 6 before but it couldn't keep the weight sideways as I placed it with the long side on the floor.    Expedits seem to be more solid.
Nice wall Flagio.....

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

@nixxon, I know it's sounds stupid to not list them all yet on my own project Lot Of Music. But I need a Bulk lister!
So I'm having a bulk lister build, which should be capable of importing Discogs & Ebay listings and in fact every Excel/csv list. With such tool it's possible to list an unlimited amount of music.
The irony in this is I need to sell on Discogs to earn the money for developing such extras on Lot Of Music smile

Re: Ikea Expedit For Records

my expedits are obsolete now, i'm building a 6000 LP wall out of these:

edit: this is not a picture of my situation, i wouldn't dare to put anything but vinyl on it's shelves.
