Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

electric cars ftw. although if i had one i probably wouldn't be able to charge it close to my home, as i'd have to keep it on the street.

@rarara: no, i don't.. that kind of stuff is a load of nonsense as far as i'm concerned.. especially when used by governments to tax you or get you to buy new stuff, or by environmental organisations to work on your guilt and donate cash to them..

ha, was meaning more the cost of running the thing

anyways, you guys living in holland should be more concerned about global warming than the rest of us, since you are flat as a pancake over there!

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

Hey Alex,

Isn't Suisse a hellhole when it comes to speeding tickets? I assume you have to drive to Germany to have some fun?

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

@Mr. Maximal
yes, it is, already 20 km over the limit and you get into penal fines. If it happens to make *serious* road accidents, maybe even injuring people,
not only you get fined and with penal results, your car gets destroyed completely.
But luckily, the german border with the autobahn is only 1 hour away from my place... big_smile big_smile big_smile

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

same over here. speeding over 20km/h and the fine is based on your income.

@fotoplastikon: hey cool man, another vw bus owner! welcome to the club.. big_smile
is that still an air cooled one?

Naah. It's 1.7 diesel from 1990.
But I've got also older VW Transporter from 1978 (with aircooled engine of course) and this rat :

It's Syrena 104 from 1967 which I found few months ago smile.
It spent 25 years in old shed. Everything is still working!

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

enjoying your lean machine, alex? wink

i have decided to forget about the scirocco, the customer service at the dealer was so bad that i called the whole thing off. i called bmw and it was a totally different song, they really want to give good service (=sell cars). will test drive a 1-series on monday.

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

@heifetz

I hope you will like it... I am totally in love with my 3er big_smile

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

i liked it all right, 118d ordered big_smile

the rear wheel drive is fun.

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

Make sure you don't let Ferenc behind the wheel of your car Alex big_smile Congrats on the find!

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

@asteroid
hehe, actually it would be a pleasure smile

@heifetz
Good choice! the 118 is a really good engine, especially the diesel version.
I am assuming that diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol in Finland?

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

thanks alex. the car was surprisingly quick, i actually test drove the automatic but will get the manual instead. diesel is cheaper here yeah, and the lower the amount of exhausts, the cheaper the taxes on the extras are. and the 118d had the lowest exhausts in it's class.

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

@ramos: you drive a Renault as far as I remember, not sure if you should dis other makes

@alex: that's an awesome ride. once my e46 330xd gives up the ghost or becomes all rust (looks like the latter will happen 1st) I am definitely getting an e90 replacement. then we can race diesel against gas

yup, still. not sure if there is going to be much of an industry left soon though!

Re: Does this count as "new gear"? :D

@teknob
Be prepared for a nice surprise... I would have more acceleration, but you would win in the long run smile
the 330xd has got more BHP than the xi... weight is more or less the same big_smile
But I am not going to strip the interiors of my bimmer like somebody we know did to his E30 325xi big_smile
