Re: Unveil the Secrets

The loudest voices seems to always seem to be somone like the colonels and bias etc. I know where you guys are coming from, but you end up pissing over those dedicated dj's that dig through tons of shit finding lost stuff that we'd never hear of otherwise. And yes, it is lost stuff if only a handful of geeks know about it and only have it standing on a catalog ordered shelf. I perfectly understand people like loud-e that they backed off the "community" as soon as it start sounding like little children, anxious of not knowing this and that track.

I cant see why its that hard to understand, like --/~~~~ points out, that it is not about not wanting to let people experience good tunes, its because as soon as you make it public then you have wanna-be and lazy dj's that go aout and brag about the tunes in order to raise their chances of getting laid or so (god luck). A DJ isnt just a jukebox ,nomatter how much you want it to be like that, and there is a element of competition and secrecy which i wouldnt want to see disappear. I do realise that the whole edit thing when it gets into money making on a broader scale is dodgy though and i get ehy people are pissed off about that aspect.

anyway.. i understand the direction this topic took, and i think most saw it coming a mile away lol

Re: Unveil the Secrets

you gotta question what drives socalled good djs and makes them neurotic about digging for records  could it be the same reasoning behind bad lazy djs ?

Re: Unveil the Secrets

You have a very good point ceb, and its a grey area in many ways. In the beginning it was easy enough to think i terms on cbs and non-cbs dj's etc., but things are pretty much spread out now and it doenst make sense to think in those categories anyways. For me i really dont know too many of these cosmic heads, and theres a lot of stupidly hyped crap. But I wouldnt put loud-e, albion and of course not flemming dalum into the same category as any other cosmic blogger. That in my opinion is just hitting completely beyond the mark, colonel style.

"Luc-Ass deserves every flack he gets. In fact, I think he's getting off pretty easy. What he REALLY Deserves is to go broke and be forced to move into a dumpster behind Pizza Hut."

Re: Unveil the Secrets

@vomatron lol indeed, but thanks for clarifying what i was trying to say

@cebteq: YES indeed, but that wasnt the crux of this discussion...I would define myself lazy as well, but i tend to still give credit where credit is due.

Re: Unveil the Secrets

but why do all these dj's think that it is so bad for them if they give out the names of the tracks they play? is their self confidence so low that they think it's only their track selection that makes them interesting? don't they realize it's their talent that makes them good dj's, not just how many cool records they can dig up in smelly basements? i have truly never understood this about most dj's.  i mean, you could give someone like loud-e 10 tracks from this week's top 40 and he's still make something interesting with it. they should believe in their own talents a lot more, and dont pay so much attention to what others do.

i dont know if it's a fundamental difference with musicians.. but i have no problem telling people what equipment i use, or how i use it, because i know even if someone has the exact same stuff, he'd never sound like me (or smackos, orgue electroniqe, alden tyrell, or fill in the name of any producer here). and its the same with records.. i've heard many mixes from dj's i respect a lot like i-f, gitano or mick wills that use for the most part stuff i also have at home, yet i'd never be able to mix like these guys, even if i'd use the exact same track listing.

personally i see it as an unnecessary lack of ''belief in yourself'' that some of the guys mentioned in this thread really shouldn't have..

Re: Unveil the Secrets

--/~~~~, i thought you said it pretty clear though : )

good points too rude, although i dont know if it is something as psychologically deep as you say with most these guys...but definetely there is something to it somewhere

Where is Colonel Norbert now???

i am getting fed up with all this cosmic bullshit, first of all because
nobody really knows what the hell cosmic is in the first place...

Except for me. yes because I know.... Cosmic is the predecessor of
GOA & PSY TRANCE...yes thats right you fucking dumb-ass cosmic hipster,
I bet you didn't know that! Just listen to a shit band like Sphongle...
pitched down slow goa trance chill out music for drugmuppets...
what does it sound like? Yes like your stupid COSMIC crap!
So what do you get when you speed up Cosmic...yes PSYTRANCE!!!

The worst thing is that all these drugmuppet hipster kids think they
KNOW everything about COSMIC music and start throwing their own cosmic
parties(either in L.A or London most of the time!) and most stupidest
of all start COSMIC blogs. Full of cosmic bullshit and cosmic facts.
They make them so they can show off their stupid COSMIC knowledge....
and hopefully become cosmic superstar DJ's (fat chance!!!).
Most of the time it consists of the following bullshit:

Posting rare MP3s
"HEY LOOK AT THIS ULTRA RARE RECORD I FOUND - YES I -ME-  I FOUND IT AND I
AM SHARING IT WITH YOU ON MY BLOG BECAUSE I AM A PROFESSOR OF COSMIC MUSIC
ARCHEAOLOGY AND  i also have SUPER TASTE (and a recordplayer) Well hooray!
that is really great, because you were probably listening to 2 step garage or
playing drums in a COLLEGE ROCK band 3 years ago before you read about
this new ultra hip cosmic thing.
And what is all this shit with these talentless fucks getting credit for
discovering tracks?????????

Make stupid old pop songs into cosmic classics:
If you can't find a super rare record you can make everything cosmic: some
TOP 40 Phill Collins, Chris Rea B-side tracks from 1981.....if it has a
drummachine, some synths, if you pitch it down...YEAH ITS TOTALLY COSMIC!
Wait...you can even make an EDIT of it!!! (See below...The next level of a
Cosmic hipster)
The worst example of a crap-old top-40 number-1 hit made a  cosmic-classic
ever     must be NOVA - AURORA...that song makes you puke!!!

Stupid interviews with nobody cosmic DJs:
What can you do to make your fucking stupid cosmic site/blog stand out,
yes an exclusive interview !
And you stupid fuck can't interview Baldelli for the 2000th time and all
the rest of these cosmic legends died from drug overdose so who can you
interivew????.......another cosmic hipster idiot DJ! Yes another fucking
lame ass like you that doesn't know shit about cosmic, another wanker that
was in some stupid alternative college rock band 3 years ago and now
thinks he is the PROFESSOR OF COSMIC MUSIC.

this how such an interview usually goes:

Q so hey...,how did you start DJing cosmic...dude?

A: welllll when i was a young kid I started experimenting with tape decks
and recording sounds and my parents record collection BLAHBLAHBLAHABALA

Well you get the picture...just pure piss ass cliche crap!!!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwnnn

The next level of a Cosmic hipster:

Cosmic hipsters are talentless fucks that are too lazy and too dumb to
make their own music. So what they do is make the lowest of the lowest
form of music: EDITS. yes edits..they take an old record, or usually they
just download an MP3...and start rearranging parts of it in a sound edit
program.
Most of the time they use the excuse of that it will make the track better
for dancing and mixing....
Maybe you should realize that if you can't mix it in the original version
you are probably a shit-ass DJ in the first place!

If that is not stupid enough already, the next level of lameness is to
claim their name to the edit (and song) and sometimes just not even
mentioning the original artist.

-so DJ Lame-ass downloaded an MP3 of a track called Bondabobo - Blue Moon
Ocean:

so BONDABOBO (that would be the band name) - "BLUE MOON OCEAN" (that would
be the title of the track) becomes BLUE MOON OCEAN (DJ LAME-ASS EDIT)

or even worse they hussle the name around...to be extra mysterious or just
to be extra...tadddaaa "COSMIC"...it becomes something like:

OCEAN BLUES (DJ LAME-ASS DEEP MOON EDIT)...

If this ain't too emberassing enough already they can take it a step
further even...

They can release their edit on a BOOTLEG vinyl record...yes they steal and
edit a track, claim its theirs and then fucking release it on a vinyl
bootleg to get ultra self-satisfaction and prove they are the ultmate
egocentric pricks! Ofcourse most people are stupid and actually think they
made the music on the record and that they are actually TALENTED....but
its all just LIES AND A BIG FACADE!

and that is what COSMIC MUSIC is....a giant bunch of facade bullshit so
these fake untalented drugmuppets can pretend they are something hot...

Col. Norbert

Bahaha! This sounds like Jan last weekend. Maybe Col Norbet IS Jan. Hmmm.

Music is a beautiful opiate, if you don't take it too seriously.

Re: Unveil the Secrets

What Rude says. I was gonna say the same thing, but way more blunt. Keeping records 'secret' is just beyond pathetic. Good music is there to be enjoyed by anyone who is interested, thank god for the internet. And who cares about wanna get layed cosmic hipsters. Talent is always recognized on forums like this one.

yes i agree. i also love it to spin a tune nobody knows ...
but at the end its pure bullshit.

i know many DJs here in FFM - especially in that sector: JAZZ / FUNK / BOOGIE
and i hate them: they are so elitist / arrogant in their behavior ...

i hate soccer

Re: Unveil the Secrets

If people ask me what is that and that record (not that it happens that often), I'm just happy to give the name to them, spread the love around!

Re: Unveil the Secrets

Get your cloak & dagger out for the lads.

Re: Unveil the Secrets

I'm not sure i can agree with Rude66 that it's all about the dj skills. Of course a skilled dj like loud-e is such a pleasure to listen to because he's so good at what he does, but it's also a lot about the records he plays. If someone played the records he plays but didn't mix them at all i would still go listen to him.
I also think the most dj's will tell you anytime what track he/she plays if you ask them, but to just spread an entire playlist for a mix out on the web is kinda spoiling the fun.

Dancin' for freaks and fame!

i think about this all the time too in respects to producing (haven't thought about it with dj's until now) but i think it is very true.

Re: Unveil the Secrets

no, not on discogs merely means it hasn't been on the radar of regular discogs submitters yet or the if it has they haven't bothered about submitting it.
