Not really italo and pretty lame:

It is however a sort of an ode to italo and disco on the dutch radios.

smile this kind of stuff never really did it for me, altough there are some exceptions.. those adams & fleisner guys did some good productions, but I was never a italo/eurodance fan...

Re: Best Dutch Italo ?

In my terminology, as a puritan buying Italo since 1982, Italo needs to have an SIAE stamp to be classified as such, but i have no problems relating Dutch, Belgian, German, Canadian etc. stuff to Italo with an insight knowing whats Italo and whats related...... well, of course Mai Tai and alike is a different story, but for me, being an Italo puritan only strengthened a curiosity to listen to related stuff back in the days. Today things might be different, but still im curious at heart smile

I thought it would be interesting to debate, and saw the Dutch "Italo" as an interesting rotating point.... I think those who know/want to can differentiate when talking about Adams & Fleisner, Mai Tai etc. and the real deal...

The term Italo is invented by a german nothing pure about that.

This is pretty much 'The' Dutch Italo if there's any.
And its an awesome track!

Re: Best Dutch Italo ?

And what about Koto? Its Michiel van der Kuy partly. He also did some eurodance stuff.
Gina - Let Me Free (theres a way more cheesy vocoder version as well but cant find it on youtube, its great). He's also Laserdance and others. And Primero - Oh Que Calor

It might be Bernhard Mikulski invented the phrase Italo, but the records he put that stamp on was Italian at that time... i am aware he called a lot of other stuff Italo later on smile

Anyway... We all have our own terms more or less, why i referred to, "in my terminology"...
I see DJ's playing at Italo parties playing Hi-nrg, Euro, Eurobeat, Canadian disco, German, Dutch, French... even Patrick Cowley and Bobby O... and calling it all Italo....

Well, what interested me was what the Robots here would consider Dutch Italo smile

a lot of this dutch stuff (x-ray connection, digital emotion, master genius, etc etc) is credited by adams & fleisner, a pseudonym for a production team called cat music. they started in the 70's as a glam rock band, but then started a production company that did anything that was popular, including italo/ hi nrg at the time. but they also did crappy mainstream pop, dutch schlagers, smurf songs and are responsible for Rubberen Robbie, taking the piss ot of dutch pop songs. they lived in a commune in a flat not far from my uncle's house in leiden (in de merenwijk).. their cat music studio in rijnsaterwoude still exists today..

hmm, rubberen Robbie vs Digital Emotion.. thats some contrast. Do you know where I can find some more info 'bout that?

Peter Slaghuis! As a kid I always loved his 'Bond van Doorstarters' entries. Haven't heard this song in ages. He wasn't even a bad singer/rapper, not at all embarrassing.

Personally i think its interesting to dig into the Dutch treasure trunk now and then, OK, its not Italo, but re-discovering stuff like Mai Tai, Fox the Fox etc. from the same era and with its own unique character.... Not to forget Michael Van der Kuy who is probably a chapter himself along with Erik van Vliet, Rob van Eijk, Huib Shippers and Edwin van der Laag...

Erik van Vliet never made 1 track,  he was only the owner of the studio van the hotsound shop and the labels

and is very know here as the man who used the first wurgcontracten for producers in the dutch dance scene

of course i know more stories about Erik   (aka the lombardoni from the low lands)

but also i kinda like him......;)

The Michel vd Kuy Koto btw was pure exploitation it had really nothing to do with original Koto from italy who were Anfrando Maiola and Stefano Cundari...I don't know exactly what was going on but it wasn't very kosher. It was like Ed Starink who made covers on the synthesizer greatest CD's.

Re: Best Dutch Italo ?

apart from buckingham palace (which is so over the top italo inspired it becomes good again) i have yet to hear something decent in this thread...all that hi-nrg eurodisco crap is really getting on my nerves.
ok risque is somewhat decent but nothing too spectacular.

let's face it, only italians know how to make good italo.

Quite interesting... I know from a friend at Combined forces that Van der Kuy had a/some hits in Asia and became quite rich, but i never heard about the Vliet story.....

Thanks Vunk smile

@ Smackos, afaik, Mikulski bought the rights to the name/brand Koto along with the entire Memory catalogue when the crisis kicked in late 1988... Mikulski just ordered Van der Kuy to make some hits and capitalize as much as possible on the name/brand...."Koto plays synthesizer greatest" was just the first step demolishing the name/brand (imo) smile
