Just the music. The man is considered to be a legend among 8-bit nerds.

O.k. agreed. I'm with the 8-bit nerds. wink

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballblazer

Ballblazer featured fractal based algorithmic music which played continually between matches. The music plays forever, without repeating itself but without straying too far from the original theme. The bassline doesn't vary at all, only the lead line in the higher register is fractally varied. The fractal music system was designed by Lucasfilm Games team leader Peter Langston, who also wrote the jazz riff and walking bassline on which the software improvises. Langston, an experienced jazz, rock, and folk musician, said of Ballblazer's music: "One reviewer, an eminent jazz player, said it sounded like John Coltrane did it. I think that's my best compliment so far."

My friends and me just did a short Jump`N`Run Game and a spaced out Text-Adventure which were never released to the public. Most of the time we did some scene related code and things ages ago. Platforms: C64, Amiga, Archimedes. smile

Classic days! I remember when graphics were a luxury... smile

Ah too many great games and themes here...Last Ninja, Another World (got the re-released PC one last year for my flatmate), Space Quest, Alien Breed...mostly BBC 32k, Master System, and PC over time - in turn they all had cheap versions of the best games from other systems.

Got a double vinyl compilation of C64 game soundtracks from a few years ago, can't remember the name (got one of those classic joysticks on the front)...I was blown away by BMX Kidz on that.

Didn't think twice about buying a SIDstation on ebay, but haven't put it to use yet!

You mean this compilation on Erkrankung Durch Music? It's single not double vinyl:

A SIDstation...yes that's the synth/module that has the same sounds as the C64, right? Cool!

think Spruxxx means this one:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3075/3100740922_5f4586b280.jpg?v=0

both that and sid musique (and I think 8-bit rockers) all came out roughly the same time - good days!!!

Re: Coolest Computermusic: Games etc.

Yeah input 64 that's the one, although Scarface the sid musique one looks very familar now i see it...casio i think one of us has that one somewhere...

apparently the sidstations are fairly unique - i read somewhere they used to go through rubbish tips picking up broken c64s and salvaging the chips to make them. after remapping them to run much quicker than originally intended the chips all reacted a little differently. no idea if that's true...

there was a warning leaflet included about the unique power supply each one comes with, and which is unfortunately, er, 'temporarily misplaced' - just gotta find it amongst all the studio gear so it's definitely not lost! wink

Re: Coolest Computermusic: Games etc.

@Madame Strobonoid

So you have (had?) a Neo Geo. You bought it then (when it came out) or later. I used to read about in game-magazines and always imagined that was made for the (very) rich kids. Later I saw Neo Geo's in snackbars etc.. There it was used instead of "real" arcade-machines. But it's almost like the real thing, right?

Not from a game but very games-inspired. Bought this record, around the same time that 8-bit rocker and other 8-bit music was released. It was some kinda hype then I think:

Made by some popular guy here on the forum big_smile

Still, I like it!

Re: Coolest Computermusic: Games etc.

@madame strobonoid ditto got a bbc emulator, enjoying the classics again...

i still have the computer and i think it still works, not so sure about the external tape drive though...and why wait 30-45 mins for the tape to run out before confirming it won't load eh!

@hysteric ah i didn't have super thunder blade but i remember borrowing it from a friend, it was great. you could watch blue thunder on the telly and then play this on a sega ha ha wink

scarface yeah 8 bit rockers...rocked. i remember the antony rother rmx of little computer people too!

Re: Coolest Computermusic: Games etc.

The Neo Geo arcade version of the hardware ("MVS") was as real as any other arcade. The setup is a bit similar to the Sega Naomi that ran the same games at the Dreamcast.

CRACKED BY MR. Z...

Re: Coolest Computermusic: Games etc.

@Scarface: Yes, I still have my Neo Geo. I imported it when it came out. I spent a lot of money for this little big 68000 machine. But at this time I was working already, so it was no real problem. smile My favourite Consoles were: Atari VCS 2600, NES, SNES, PC-Engine, Neo Geo, Sega Mega Drive and the sadly underrated Dreamcast. It was really a great and very special time I wont miss just a single second ...  LCP: Play Piano! smile Damned I am old .... but what the heck! smile

@spruxxx: Yeah, Tape Loading. Arghhhh .... smile But the first tape loaders appeared very quickly, so it was okay. Nevertheless there was always a very special feeling and high tension guaranteed. A Floppy with Dolphin Dos or Speed Dos was pure Dope later ... smile Just save your original Harware because you could easily regret it ....

the first 2 minutes were enough to be totally absorbed by the game.
i think this is indeed at least one of the very best..a masterpiece
