haven't heard the new album yet - thanks for the link.

i really like them. they are proper weird, not fake weird - and they can write a catchy chorus. apparently they were playing the sonar festival and the singer laid down and slept through their (instrumental) performance - that's the attitude.

what is really impressing is that this broadcast was posted at youtube in april 2008 - at this date the first TNP album was just one year old - and they were already playing other songs from the 2010 album - and they are really young ...

i was expecting such a response here smile but i think they are special and that they have a big potential. and forgotten in a few months? this is the 2nd album, the first was released in 2007 - both on DOMINO records, a good label imo.

Sorry, my first post wasn't that serious. I don't know Vampire Weekend, I just keep reading their name everywhere at the moment, so I checked two of their clips on Youtube and they were HORRIBLE. They suck so hard, even These New Puritans are better - IMO.

i think its unfair to push TNP in that "hipster" category together with vampire weekend and so on... vampire weekend is mainstream alternative music for every "indie-disco". TNP definitely not.. if they want to have big success in the so called "indie" or "alternative" market they would have never released such a weird, strange and experimental album (some tunes are totally gloomy dead can dance instrumentals). they are not many bands around in that style. they are special imo. but anybody who hates them can do that, no problem - taste is always differnet ...
btw: everybody is loving the new HOT CHIP album? i think its quite boring (but the ccarl craig remix is great)

By the way, believe it or not, I wanted to mention Hot Chip as well. They are everywhere at the moment, Jesus. So annoying. And, guess what, all of their stuff I checked out on Youtube sucked. Boooring.

imo they have been on a bit of a downward trajectory; each album slightly worse than the last.  joe goddard did a solo album of mostly instrumentals, worth checking out if you like the hot chip stuff...
