Topic: Small Synths

In theory I'll be coming into some money soon, and I've been lusting after a new piece of hardware. However, I don't drive, I use public transport for concerts so pretty much anything I would consider would have to fit in my suitcase.

It makes me sad that I can never take my Solina to gigs because it sounds so awesome.

I already have a Microkorg.

So there is the DX100, the CS01, the CZ101

What other's could I consider? You know, it would be wonderful to have like a tiny Juno or something...

Wise sages of the hardware section bestow upon me the milk of your knowledge teats!

Re: Small Synths

check mfb shit. amazing sounds, little packages

Re: Small Synths

oh wow! those look ace. Reasonably priced and local!

Re: Small Synths

DSI Tetra. CS01 is nice but its pretty basic.

Re: Small Synths

Basic is OK. I like keys though. I had a TX7 and hated programming it via MIDIQuest because you could only audition the sound via the computer and it only played a C major chord. Programming my DX21 via it is much more useful to me because I can get an idea of the sound all across the keys.

Does no one make like those MFB or Tetras in tiny keyboard versions?

Re: Small Synths

The Tetra should come in a keyboard version.

Re: Small Synths

Hmmm small and fun...  A Roland mc202 is a great monosynth. How about a korg poly 800? Novation bass station? Perhaps you woul prefer a x0xbox? How about any of the electribe stuff? Perhaps a yamaha Groove box like the dx200? A Dsi Tetra is 4 synths in a box or a poly synth, even with a simple 2 octive keyboard it would pack a hell of a punch. Or perhaps a korg r3? It's the same modeling as Radius. An alessis micron or alessis air synth? How about an kasosolator. Dopfer Dark energy or a vermona performer.... There is a lot of good suitcase stuff avalable.. Yamaha su10 mini sampler the list goes on an on...

Re: Small Synths

Poly 800, SH-09, MC-202, SH-09 and SH-101 aren't super tiny but they are super light if ya just gig bag them.

I also remember back in the day in Edmonton when Sneak-Thief was ripping up tons of local house parties with his electribes and Yamaha Rmx1. At least I'm sure that's what he had, Rmx1 for sure. I was drunk a lot.

Re: Small Synths

that Dark Energy looks nice.

- edit -

I had a RM1x for many many years and did tons of noise concerts with it, but it died, slowly it died, knobs fell off, keys stopped working. poor thing.

Re: Small Synths

Yamaha DX200
Creamware ASB series

Re: Small Synths

Do you want analogue or modelling?  if you're not an analogue purist then the acces virus snow packs a lot into a very small box.  A lot of the presets are a bit cheesy but the atomizer function looks like it'd be useful for live performances.

Re: Small Synths

Cool idea but those patchpoints are too tiny. Not going to last too long methinks.

Re: Small Synths

Bad experiences with Anyware, Dennis?

Re: Small Synths

roland rs-09 is a nice (more or less) handy alternative to solina, makes a nice couple with sh-09!

Re: Small Synths

Those New Volca Korg Grooveboxes (see other thread) are small and cheap.

Honey, in the morning the bees are singing and the birds are stinging in an open head surgery.
