Topic: humidity and dust

summer time can be very humid and dusty where i live.
my gear is always covered with cloths but that's doesn't do nothing to humidity.
you can hear the effect on the gear here...
how do you fight humidity in the studio?

Re: humidity and dust

If you are really want to solve the issue, it's gonna be quite expensive, I think.

here is a gearslutz discussion about the topic http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much- … -room.html

Re: humidity and dust

dehumidifiers, it seems to expansive.
someone suggested to put anti humidity bag (those which comes with new electricity things)
near the synth or even put small ones inside of some.
it sounds dodgy, what do you say?

in specially hot and humid days ventilation or AC is working any way so maybe it's enough

Re: humidity and dust

Silica gel, was also my first thought. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silica_gel
You can regenerate it in an oven and it's not that expensive.

But:

"If there is moisture from outside the area you want to protect, your silica gel will become saturated much more quickly and require more frequent reactivation. Limit the air flow into the area as well as the number of times you access the area. For example, silica gel will work well in the inside a storage trunk, but it will not work as well if you are opening and closing the lid of the trunk several times a day allowing moisture from the outside to penetrate."

I don't think it's very practical on the long run, but maybe you can store some of your gear in big airtight containers
with some bags in it, depending on how often you use it or how expensive it is, during the time you don't use it.
