Fright club... for those who like being scared...
I want you horror addicts to hit me with your scariest films, I love shitting it through a film, being really frightened and love the real sense of dread!
Help me and others get my kicks with this...
some recommendations from me:
Ju-On (The Grudge) - Takashi Shimizu 2000 - Japan
The Japenese really know how to scare fuck out of me. I would rate this on a scare level of 12 out of 10. I've only ever seen this film once, because it frightened me that much...
REC - Jaume Balagueró, Paco Plaza 2007 - Spain
A nice take on zombie/virus style films. I think it's hard to pull off a 'handy-cam' style film, but this is done superbly. The use of handy cam, and small camera tricks, like fuzzing and making parts of the scene slightly out of focus, adds an acidy tinge to the experience. The soundtrack is superb as well. Recommend you to watch this in a darkened room, extremely loud, or with headphones on. This has got some really good, shit yourself moments. This was recently remade into a shitty american remake... avoid that!
Jacob's Ladder - Adrian Lyne 1990 - USA
This is great for the suspense freaks. A slowly unravelling story of a vietnam vet, who's slowly but surely going out of his mind. Flashing images, obscured vision and great cniematography create a such a sense of insecurity and tension. This ones less about those shit yourself moments and more about an impending sense of doom! Brilliant.
Dawn of the Dead - Zack Snyder 2004 - USA
I'm not generally one for remakes. They always tend to detract from the original and are usually shit. But, Zack Snyders homage to Romero's Dawn of the Dead is up there with one of the best horror remakes of recent times. Ok, so he's ignored some of the Zombie rules of yore. These are fast and very dangerous zombies. Some serious moments of "aaaahhhhh... oh, theyre safe!... Phew". Throw in some nods and cameo appearences (including a belter by Tom Savini, the original special effects designer for Romero) and This film really holds its own.
Tonight, Im gonna check out 'High Tension' by Alexandre Aja 2003 - Spain
I've heard nothing but good things from this.
Hit us with the best of your scary shit!
