Re: Would you sell all the instruments you have for a Buchla 200e?

yes, of course i read that it was stylus rmx on the drums.

i'm not sure why your response is so defensive. i honestly want to know what tonal aspects of that track that you liked that made you post it.

there is nothing trollish or childish about my technical evaluation of the melodic timbres in that track.

furthermore, i never said the 200e is over-rated - in fact, the opposite:

the buchla is absolute cutting edge synthesis and module design

it seems to me that the user interface is too opaque for most music-production workflows, in which case a streamlined workflow on a decent synth (not a $50 synth, please) can deliver equally aurally captivating sounds with more ease.

Re: Would you sell all the instruments you have for a Buchla 200e?

Yeah. The track sucks and his $10k+ buchla didn't help at all.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Re: Would you sell all the instruments you have for a Buchla 200e?

The track was just one of the things i picked from Lyonell's work.
Because Interfunk mentioned that the Buchla can't be an instrument for someone being productive.
I think the idea of the Buchla 200e is having a modular synthesizer on which you can be productive.
And which you can use live due smart patching and the preset manager.
It's imo an awesome clever great design and at a great price to.

And Biotek stop playing so childish.

well you have a point there.

As far as my poor knowledge about Buchla's goes, you can make very musical stuff with it, just have a listen to all of David Morley's tracks and judge for yourself. It would be cool if he would test this one.

Morley used to have a 200 series 258 vco's
He might get some 200e stuff at some point maybe.
But i bet with some full anogue vco's.

Re: Would you sell all the instruments you have for a Buchla 200e?

hej mono - don´t get me wrong.

for sure the buchla is a nice unique synth - but in my opinion it´s something for fx or maybe for obscure sounds or whatever. with "productive" i mean, that it´s not a synth you turn on for getting a tight sounding basssound within a few seconds - which fits perfectly to any track you are workin at.... it´s maybe the same as the VCS3 - supernice synth, but not easy to integreate to an arrangement.

Well i think it all depend on who's programming it.
I should get more into my buchla after my hollidays perhaps.

To answer the original question - No.  It's probably a  really inspirational tool but I still get inspiration and enjoyment every time I switch on my existing kit.

The VCS3 is easy to integrate into an arrangement if you know how to use one.

Yeah it's quite easy to have it track at 1 volt/oct.

Re: Would you sell all the instruments you have for a Buchla 200e?

Wow, I would have never expected the spanish inquis... ehrm, such a hot debate smile
Anyway, I personally think that everyone of us has his own workflow, whether it is pushing buttons, turning knobs or gently
sweeping over the keyboard.
For me, I am more a turn knob / push button freak, although I have studied piano for God only knows how many years...
My biggest concern is whether the Buchla can be a valid substitute of all my other synths - not claiming that it can really
be a 100% substitute of all of them, but still a device that can fill all my synthesis requirements...

I think that only a physical confrontation (me vs. the machine itself) can really answer my question..

Now, where do I find someone with a new Buchla in der Schweiz? any pointers (especially from Mono)?

thanks,
a.
