Topic: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

ha ha, made you look, didn't it? big_smile

time for the great winter sale here. with the coming of the A80, i have less studio space (and an em[pty wallet!), so some things have to go. and of course the software part is bull..

edit: i'll leave it here only until the weekend, first choice for robots. after the weekend, i'll put the unsold stuff on ebay..

first up: my beloved Revox B77 mk2 HS

this is the very rare 2-track hi speed version of the Revox B77. it does 7,5 and 15 IPS, is in absolutely 100% perfect working order, including normal wear stuff like the counter and VU meter lights. its all there and working perfect. Heads are super, no damage as this machine has been used in a studio environment only in its entire life.
it's been professionally modified to accept XLR in/outs, this is done on the side of the machine. you also get a remote control and the original manual with it.
the remote is not the official revox one, but a professionally home made one (i.e. not by me, but by someone who knows what they are doing.. big_smile) it controls everything, from normal functions to the varispeed. it's been calibrated to 0db via the xlr's, and adjusted for originally BASF/emtec 911 studio tape. i've always used RMG and basf 911 with it and it sounds perfect.

duh.. edit: one of the record buttons is broken off, but i'm sourcing a new one for it. it still functions perfect, of course..

this is the machine i've used to record all my tracks to for the last 5 years. the sadistic tendencies album, 1000 year storm, the vynalogica ep, black sabbath, overkill: they have all been recorded on this sucker. so you know how it sounds too.

price.. i was a little shocked to see how much these things sell for on ebay. i'd love to let this go for small money, but i need it to finance the A80..
i'm willing to let it go for 450 euro, which is less than i see worse or less complete ones on ebay go for. i'm willing to ship, but this sucker is heavy. in europe, count on an additional 30-40 euro shipping costs.

next up: a bunch of very vintage d&r compressor/limiters and noise gates. UPDATE: SOLD!

selling this all in one batch, 2 compressor limiters and 3 noise gates. i have 1 or 2 more not working noise gates i'll throw in. they all work, but are not matched to each other or callibrated. the gates all have a key in for triggering. they are in well used condition, but predate the 1/2 19 inch d&r's. i've used them as inserts in all sorts of stuff, but the best thing to hear the compressor working is the 808 in both versions of overkill. a very nice bunch of sound manglers.

i need the rack for other stuff: the whole set of 5 machines can be yours for a lousy 100 euro.

next: Roland CR-8000 CompuRhythm

i've had this for many years, used on a lot of the older and 3000 bunker series. missing link between the CR78 and the TR808. preset rhythms and 8 programmable rhythms.
has a few scratches on the outside, but the inside is 100% perfect. and it'll stay that way: this 8000 will NOT suffer from the dreaded ''dead button'' syndrome these things are known for. i permanently fixed these last week using the method kevin lightner of synthfool described (adding new metal contact surfaces to the switches,  a beast of a job!) and now all buttons work perfect.
as an added bonus this CR8000 has 6 professional made individual outputs for bassdrum, snare/tom/rim, conga, cowbell and hihat. the clap one doesn't work (loose wire) but since these are break jacks taking the sound from the main out when you insert a jack in the individual out, the clap is the only one left in the main out if you use them all.
selling it because i bought a korg KR55, and i simply don't have the room for both.

300 euro.

next: Cubase System4 USB sound card pack UPDATE: SOLD

had this for a while, used occasionally. it's basically a Steinberg MI4 USB sound card (4 in/2 out, midi in/out and SP/DIF in/out) with a copy of Cubase SL i believe. Card is bus-powered, has xlr and jack inputs, inserts, and an instrument in on the front.
complete with all manuals, like new. search the net for what it can do, its a pretty good sound card and can be used on the mac also, though the copy of cubase is windows only. you can download Asio drivers from Steinberg, obviously the ones on the cd here are not the latest ones.

75 euro.

last: Blaupunkt DVM-2000 digital video mixer. Very good videomixer for vj's. however as i'm not a vj, i don't need it. excellent condition except 2 fader caps missing. again, search the net for what it does.

100 euro.

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

a revox vst? ha ha ha!

none of those shitty plugins come even close to what a properly aligned revox does to your sound. the best those things do is try to emulate the tape compression sound, but a real revox adds that litrle bit of magic. the way it expands the bass is amazing too..i was pretty shocked the first time i recorded a track to tape years ago. i had no idea the difference was that big..

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

i have extra magic vst too

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

someone should program an overdose vst.. big_smile

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

haha, good topic title to draw the attention!
To bad I don't have money to cough up right now sad

*edit: out of curiousity, is the soundcard usb powered? (and how much mA does it take? it's quite hard to find on the net but quite important looking at my current laptop-overloading-setup)

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

yes, it is bus-powered, it doesn't even have an input for a power supply.. it even takes phantom power from the USB bus.

io've edited some specs btw from the mi4.. but i can't find the amount of mA..

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

I would like the D&R compressor/limiter/gates bunch, if it is still there... sending you a pm

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

Seems like baz is interested in the soundcard and I am in the software, correct?
Herr 66, is deze cubase versie erg anders dan VST/32? Zo niet, wil ik er 30E voor betalen, misschien dat Baz je dan van de soundcard af helpt

Do you have a link to where he describes it?
Or another tip for making the buttons come alive again, preferably an easy one as i'm not really that handy (don't know how to solder, etc..)

thnx

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

no, he described in some forum years ago. i just remembered it.

there is no easy fix, this is the only way. those buttons loose their contact surface inside, and you gave to renew the surface basically.. and they can't be bought anymore, though i've heard from people that claim to have seen them on ebay.
but that still requires major soldering and taking it apart.. no easy fix here..

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

if someone buys the revox, does that person gets a lifelong recording pass on the Studer???? wink

(btw i'm still looking for someone in Amsterdam who can calibrate a revox b77).

Did you replace the contact surface with a small piece of copper superglued to it Ruud? I a sure I read that on some forum.  I keep meaning to do that with mine. Just unsoldering the metal cage that holds the buttons in is a major job.

+++ Dont be scared honey, thats just the resonance knob +++

Re: Big studio sale: changing completely to software!

yep, thats what i did.. i dont remember if i used copper or some other kind of conducting metal, but it works like a charm.. and yes, it was a hell of a job, but the majority of buttons didnt work anymore, so it was really no choice..

@actinet6: that depends how close they are to the studer.. big_smile
what needs to be calibrated on your b77?
