roland d-70?

get a D50 and I say YES tongue

i know sad .. but an old friend of mine has one d-70 (+soundcards +pedal) collecting dust for many years now. just wondering if it would be useful synth somehow.

Its sort of a U220 with digital filter and some very weird synthesis method were you can do something obscure with the PCM rom samples...its not a bad sounding synthesizer at all, really nice for ambient, soundtrack and pads etc.etc.etc.
I always wanted one but you don't see them that often here and they are kind of big too
Here are some sounds from the MV30 (which is the same engine as the D70)

Here is another demo with a good describtion

Re: Should I buy...

ah cool didnt know that about the MV30, the D70 is just too freaking big....

Re: Should I buy...

I know it is not really music related (and it should go on the "I must buy" thread, but there is none so far),
but my next big investment will be on this:

http://www.viessmann.be/etc/medialib/internet-global/images/anlagenfotos.Par.98072.Image.ImagesrcML.jpg/anlagenfotos.jpg

For those wondering what is that, it's a heat pump.

and this little (!) device goes for the really economic price of around 10K euri.
I could nearly buy a Buchla 200e with that money!

Is that a g

Re: Should I buy...

studiomaster studiofex rack.   theres one i found in a small shop nearby.
has anyone used one? worthwhile sound or does it just look good?  price?
I think there were a few gates, a delay, a compressor and some other things in there.

Re: Should I buy...

looks darn good smile would buy it for an reasonable price but dont have any experience with them how much did it cost?

Do synthesizers dream of electronic drums?

Re: Should I buy...

A new kaossilator, still no build in synthesizer (I think?) but those green lights are mesmerizing...its got MIDI out and a sampler?

Re: Should I buy...

^ check this thread out for more info

http://www.livepa.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=4907

theres a list of features, finally theres some interesting stuff this time at namm

ALSO:

1. SHOULD I get a roland s760 sampler w/monitor out/expansion too for about $100 or less
OR
an ensoniq eps+ with TONS of disks  and stuff for about $140

I know the roland is deeper and newer and i can edit on the monitor, but is the eps REALLY fun to use? also built in seq?

2. My other dilemma is whether to save for a tr-909 or get an mfb 522 instead and save the rest of the money. I know the 522 and 909 are totally different and im kind-of a purist so its tough. I just need a "main" drum machine as my 707 and borrowed 606 dont do the "main" drum machine thing and my x0xb0x gets lonely sometimes.

3. last one is should i get an awesome/mint/recently serviced tascam 688 8-track cassette recorder w/ case for like 300 bucks? I think it looks so badass, and i would love to record without using the damn computer. then again i would have to buy more outboards!!!!

ah all this studio funds burning a hole in my pocket!!

Re: Should I buy...

get the 909. what goes for the 808 earlier in this thread, also goes for the 909..

8 track cassette? ugh.. that leaves like a hairline per track.. keep on saving then and buy an 8 track tascam/fostex reel to reel..

Re: Should I buy...

^^^ thanks for the advice ruud. everyday i change my mind so its hard. but for so long i have had "okay gear" that ive got sick of and then sold. when I got the x0xb0x I was like holy-shit! this is what making music is about!! the 707 + jx3p are kinda the same thing for me, but ive never spent more than around 600 on a piece of gear so its a little bit of a jump. Im looking to spend about 1000-1200 tops on it.

Also about the 909, I read somewhere on here that there were 2 versions. the first ones had quieter bass drum and slighly diff snare drum. the later models fixed this AND the midi sync eprom thing. any info or a link to that post, i looked all over but couldn't find it

Re: Should I buy...

2 versions?!??!?! all 909s will sound different with kick and snare, being analogue and 20+ years old, and all..... I've never heard of an actual production variation in sound quality though

latest EEPROM would be very nice. midi sync is really rough without it, and will cause you a lot of pain if you want to sync it to your daw via MIDI. (though you could dinsync it to the x0xb0x and run the x0xb0x off your daw via MIDI, so not the end of the world if you don't get the latest eeprom.

I never bought a 909 but used several machines from friends and there is a big difference on some points. I like that distorted humming sound, but with some machines there was too much attack on the bass. That was the biggest difference as far as I know, and off course the sequencer that got jammed multiple times.. So if possible; test before you buy..

Re: Should I buy...

OK, so I found in ads Tascam M3500 mixing console (32 ch version). The guy asks 600eur for it and says that it was used for 8 years in a studio and you can definately see the usage on it. But he swears that everything works. He is in a hurry though, so that might be an advantage for me.

What is the market price of these boards nowadays? I'm really in a need of a big desk, and this might solve my problem. I remember there was talk about Tascam desks on old forum, how are they regarding sound and build quality? Are there any quirks I should be aware about, with the possible service and the functions?

Should I buy this desk?

Thanks

Re: Should I buy...

my mate sold his tascam m3500 two weeks ago for 800

Re: Should I buy...

The price is good, they go for double that price here in Holland. Smackos has the motorized version, the m3700. I like how that one sounds, but he should be able to tell you more about it.

Re: Should I buy...

I have a Tascam M-1600 24 channels, previously owned by one half of Freak Electrique... Some famous records
from them have been mixed on this desk, I got it for 600 euri some years ago.

What can I say... if it will break and the spares will be available (not necessarily from Tascam) I will keep this desk.
I like it and I feel very good while I am using it.

studiomaster series II mixer. friend of mine is offering one that has "quite a few" issues for 20 euro or so.. worth all that fixing?

Re: Should I buy...

It seems that the Tascam is sold sad so I am still in the hunt for a desk.
