Re: tr*nc*

Great! Remember that one from this compilation I listened a lot then. Maybe it's more towards ambient. Ambient can be very trancy too right... wink

Also the trance-europe-express compilations had some great trancey ambient like:

Re: tr*nc*

lots of what's in here would definitely not be even remotely considered trance in my book - Aphex Twin, Shiver, Air Liquide, Robert Hood...?

proper trance has cod-mystical names and dances around fluorescent totem poles while selling you pointless home-made tat for extortionate prices... like this:

I'm sorry, big difference!!

but there's no way stuff like Neuropolitique,  Link, Reload or LA Synthesis is trance to me, or any of the people I mentioned originally...

Juno Reactor, etc on the other hand most certainly is. I guess a big part of whether it's trance or not for me, and again what makes it normal 'trance' or 'goa trance' even, is all down to exactly how much it sucks. It has to suck in the first place to be trance, and if it sucks especially hard then it's goa-trance... big_smile

Re: tr*nc*

@casionova: i interpreted tr*nc* as a feeling, some effect a record creates, it'd be kinda boring to me to only post tracks that fit into the genre 'trance' (not at least because of the ugliness of that stuff)

@scarface: great post, that apollo album is a classic and just before i read your post i wanted to explore those trance atlantic albums yesterday, looking for memories smile

Let's say that trance has different faces/sides. If you call "proper trance has cod-mystical names and dances around fluorescent totem poles while selling you pointless home-made tat for extortionate prices" that's kinda narrow thinking. To me, it's broader than that and a lot of genres that you don't like to call trance anymore have trance (or trancy) elements in them so maybe that's why it's difficult to draw the line between what's trance and what's not. To trance or not to trance...that's the question (?). smile

yes! i enjoyed a lot of the stuff on jackpot records back in the day, i can listen to it and enjoy it still (even the stuff i hadnt heard before) sadly it seems to be a touch underrated (especially gauging it by the discogs price)

here's a good one which i had only ever heard a small clip of (in footage of sasha & digweed spinning it at tribal gathering 1997) and i had searched years to learn the title and artist behind it, but had finally given up many moons ago - recently i found it while digging through a djs old collection he was getting rid of, made my day! hard to tell if it was the highlight of the day though, he had lots of goodies including peter lichts sonnendeck, bill drummond's the man lp, and orbitals times fly 2x7" ep all in mint condition! things he inherited from a buddy's shop that closed down.
strange thing was i used to shop that store a lot and never saw these items there.

anyways i digress - the trance track i speak of is Tenth Chapter - Whiteland
