Re: Worship a god that killed our friends?

Believing in something is not bad...i think it's each persons Main purpose to look after...a motif to look for...

@ most complicated robot. OK, i have a similar view concerning "God" and religion. I trust more science than any God. This is an enlightened world view. But not all people have such a good access to education like us. In what should the (poor) people believe if they don't  know it better?
They ask themselves Who makes the rain, or gives us a good harvest? its GOD/ALLAH or the whatever named guy

there is no excuses in ignorange, as none in bigotism.

rest is still too simple. there is no god versus science, they are in fact complementary and of course related to different fields of concern.

and ceb, your suspicious vision on science and religion its obviously exaggerated, and impossible to sustain. Of course we try to describe the universe, in every possible way, measuring every possible extension of it. This is not directly connected to manipulation though.

God is a complete different matter, and a tricky one.

This is child talk.

Really? then why do people think \ say that God has something to do with any earth events? Why do we hear people say "why me god", etc etc?

Why do religous people pray for miracles and stuff if "God has nothing to do with any earth events" ???

Agreed. But i may lead to an interesting discussion...

Re: Worship a god that killed our friends?

I think of 'God' as like a fabric or a force, energy. Not 'someone' that listens and talks to you or commands the atoms and minds. It's as old as the universe itself and we really don't know anything about how it started, there is only speculation.

Even math is filled with theories, look at string theory. Nice formulas, but still only theories.

Do it your way, because everyone else is just weird.

Re: Worship a god that killed our friends?

Life and the way the Universe is built is obviously an incredibly performant and fantastic form of technology.

Statistically the probabilty that a so incredibly well-designed architecture could appear by chance from an energetic "white noise" is close to zero.

So the probabilty the universe has been built follwing a plan is close to 1.

But the word "God" means nothing anymore, it has been used to too many purposes.

Reality about The Plan is out of our reach.

Re: Worship a god that killed our friends?

people use god to explain tragedy because it makes it easier to cope

my cousin just died and almost everyone is saying that god wanted him and it was his time and that hes in a better place now. while i want to argue with that, i don't have a more comforting explanation even though i believe there is one

Re: Worship a god that killed our friends?

in fact there is no order in the universe.  its a chaotic system - so the argument by design is a weak one unless you accept an unperfect god which contradicts his omnipotence

B.t.w. didn't god die some time ago (when Nietzsche was still alive)?

Re: Worship a god that killed our friends?

Reason can only undermine faith, never justify it. One must choose to believe in God passionately and personally, not as a mere intellectual exercise. An authentic belief acquires its force from within, as a 'leap of faith' without the guidance of reason to reassure us that what we are doing is 'right' or 'true'. Such reassurances would remove the need for faith if God's existence were simply a matter of common sense or rational reflection.
