Was a little sad as the organ isn't coming to the new house. But with this I'll be able to Solina-fy whatever the hell I want.

Anybody want to recommend another good, preferably cheap half racker to sit beside this guy? There's some Boss ones...

interesting.., how does it work/sound?

From what I can tell and what I've heard the chorus effect is just that and the string effect is the phased "triple chorus" ensemble effect made famous by Solina and other 70s organs.

There are MP3s on that linked site.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Is it compareable with the Boss CE-300 Super Chorus?

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Trying to slim down for the summer. Got an MPC-1000 to maybe replace the Rs7k and one of these cuties to replace the big ol 16 channel mixwizard.

Does the CE-300 have the phased "triple chorus"? That's what Solina-fys things. If it does than probably. The triple chorus effect seems to sound the same wherever it's used.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

@crc
there you go:
http://www.danti.ch/semdemo/assault.mp3
Not exactly like the original, but to me it sounds very close. Sounds like a SID in certain moments...

and I made another run of about 3 minutes and a half with a sort of 80s bassline and live knob tweaking:
http://www.danti.ch/semdemo/semseq1.mp3

Some facts: my studio is undergoing physical rebuilding, so the SEM has been hooked up directly to the audio card (which is
a Echo Layla 3G) on channel 2, which has an on-board preamp.
Audio has been recorded on Cubase SX3, no effects whatsoever, no compression of any kind.
Just some normalization with SF6 after recording, before encoding in mp3.

if you want more, just ask. Currently the SEM has taken the place of my desk phone big_smile

Overall impression: I honestly think that this is a synth with a lot of power in its sound, for sure the amplification stage is
well designed (also the other modules, but I am really impressed by the dynamics).
Controls are very precise, although I think one should use it with a delicate hand, the pots are a little bit too "light" and
may easily break IMHO. The casing is all metal, so it is definitely solid.

I have the version with the MIDI to CV converter integrated in the box and there is no CV/Gate input (only output, so you
can indeed use it as a converter if you want to), but in the manual there is an appendix stating where to feed the CV/Gate,
so if you have a minimal experience with electronics one can easily drill a couple holes and have it driven by an external
CV/Gate source. The converter also provides for assignment of MIDI velocity, controller and channel pressure to VCO1/2
frequency, VCF frequency and VCA, plus you can choose from three note assignment modes (latest, high note and low
note).

There are as well two audio inputs so that you can process external sound with the VCF, which is something I will try next.

Final consideration: 1000 USD well spent for me, I cannot compare it to an original SEM because I never saw one, but by
just listening to the way it sounds and comparing it to the other analogs I have (like the MS20 or the Jupiter 4) it surely
holds up in the ranks smile Let's say that if it would be stolen or broken beyond repairs, I would get another one for sure.

A final note: I bought mine from audiomidi.com, I STRONGLY advise not to buy stuff from them. I had a really bad
customer service experience (basically sending them emails at all their published addresses and calling their support
number in the US asking for a delivery date, never got a reply).
At the end I got much more support from Mr. Oberheim himself (he replied almost instantly to my emails!).
For EU customers there is Schneidersbuero that sells it. I had a good experience with them.
