Suggestions of subjects to cover are welcome smile So far I have The Blitz Kids, Nelson Sullivan, Leigh Bowery, Danceteria and a few other things up there. Plan on improving the design, etc.

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

It's a pretty good start. Do a post about The Funhouse!

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

Hey cupcake2000, I don't know much about the funhouse. Some preliminary googling shows it was a late-70's club in Manhattan?
Do you have any cool pictures or more info about it? Jellybean Benitez spun there?

Thanks!

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

Nice blog! the piece about Area is really good.

What about an article about the "cosmic" disco scene in Italy in the 70s?

There's a fair bit of info about the decadent clubs and djs like Danielle Baldelli, Beppe Loda etc.

Seems it was quite a druggy scene, with djs playing a lot of disco, rock, reggae and electronic records really pitched down or at the wrong speed.

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

Thanks guys! Great suggestions smile

Was thinking of doing the paradise garage next actually.

I'm trying not to make music the focus so I can show all the different ways that nightlife has lots of impact on other aspects of culture.

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

Metro-nome, Funhouse was indeed the club where Jellybean made his name. Its heyday was probably around 1983/84, after Planet Rock came out and Arthur Baker used to use it as a testing room for his new songs straight out of the studio. There's a fascinating history attached to the place. Also, it's where Madonna met Jellybean, effectively kickstarting her career, and is the direct inspiration for her early style... Not that i'm much of a Madonna fan, she's a shortass size-queen, but i do love the early stuff of hers which was really Funhouse derived.

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

very nice !! bookmarked.

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

Discoteca Ciak.
And what about Plato's Retreat? Cool place.
That New York drag scene that was depicted in the movie Paris Is Burning is also a very rich theme.

FYI, she made some new posts & found great old footage of Belgian New Beat clubs, the Amsterdam RoXY, and NYC's N.A.S.A. parties at Shelter. http://walkthenight.tumblr.com/

Re: I started a nightlife history blog

took a while, but I got a new post up on Walk the Night. This one is about Detroit's Club Heaven where Ken Collier was the legendary resident DJ. This was actually a pretty tough one to research so if there are any inaccuracies someone notices or anyone has any more info about this club, please point it out to me!

Thanks.

I am planning on doing the next one about Fac51, which has the opposite problem of too much info. Trying to sift through it and distill into a blog post.
