Re: New Korg Analog Synth

Got mine yesterday. Amazing what comes out of this little box, especially when plugged into the mixer.
Very sad you can't sync the LFO somehow. Next thing to do is to play with the aux.

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

Properly loving it. I don't know how i will ever play anything sensible with it, but it makes some great sounds. It's my first bit of Korg gear, and it certainly makes noises i can't make on anything else. The best £50 ever spent. Instant gratification  lol  lol

Also, it will replace the annoying sound on buses and trams. No longer will it be the youth with tinny r'n b on their phones; the synth geeks shall be heard!

Where did you buy yours? Did you buy online? I want one.

got it at the local music store.
shouldn't be too hard to get one sooner or later.
i think korg will be selling a lot of them all over the world.

@ english electric:

with the cv/gate mod you should be able to get something sensible out of it.
i even read someone made a midi mod for it.

i may well have to look into that, though i like the freedom of no control: the Jen sx1000 is a fave too. Or buy another one to modify. tongue

hehehe, that's exactly why i bought two smile
leave one as it is and the other one will be the victim of my noobish soldering skillz...poor monotron

i posted this video on the previous page too, but check the part from 3.25

sounds like a pretty decent bassline to me.

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

Here's something i've multitrack-recorded on the first day with my monotron.
http://soundcloud.com/macurious/monotron-first-day

And here's a more serious try, but it was very difficult to play the different parts in sync so it's all very bumpy.
Whatever. There's coming up some Acid near the end. wink

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

got my review machine in. damn.. that IS the ms10 (or ms20 lowpass) filter. big noise for such a little thing.. i might just keep this one. herr pauli, any luck with the cv/gate mod? looks pretty easy..

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

I should pick one up.
Maybe tomorow when i got some time.

i don't need the gear, the gear needs me

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

Having lots of fun with the monotron, slouching around and making some crafty sounds. I really like the concept of a handheld synth, proper boss!

I will have to buy another one to mod up, so one can actually play it in a tuneful manner, but in the mean time, it makes me and my five year old boy very happy, and slightly annoys his mum. yikes

(attached: mental image of 5yr old running round a cavernous museum with the monotron. Male parent laughing his socks off.)

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

i like that dinsync.info mod where you can take the box with the cv/gate ins off, and use it as a handheld again. its cool as a filter too, the 808 sounds properly nasty through it.. im definitely gonna take this with me on live gigs!

Rude it's so easy it would be stupid not to do the mod. Seriously.
I never did something like that before, but the scematic looked so simple i just went ahead, bought the parts,
and built it in like 30 minutes.

Although somewhere i read the Monotron is supposed to be Hz/Volt, i've got it working fine with normal cv/gate.
Also the keytracking is working fine.
Only problem i still have is with the CV to filter input. It does something, but not  what it should do.
But i don't really care too much, because i never use CV to filter anyway..

Big tip: don't make the potmeter like i did it but make it like the dinsync guy made it. On the inside.
Because it's a pot you only have to adjust once and then you're done.

Another very interesting mod some Japanese guy did :  LFO switchable between LFO and ENV.
Very interesting mod !!
I've already found that scematic, but it looks a little more complicated plus it's partly in Japanese smile
Probably won't take too long before it's available in English with step by step instructions for guys like me
that don't really know what they are soldering tongue

If anyone finds it, please share !

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

Dammit, I am still waiting for mine.. I ordered it 2 weeks ago.. waiting for a container to turn up from japan... England is dry!

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

really, are these difficult to find in the UK? been too busy to get round to buying one yet

pauli - was the schematic easy to follow? built a few things before, but usually they are well documented. does it have to run off batteries - did you do the power supply mod?

Scematic is super easy:

Didn't do the powersupply mod yet. Am planning on doing it. Shouldn't be too hard also smile

BTW here's a pic of the Monotron PCB ( hope it's not too big ... )

to me it didnt sounded like a ms20 filter, but it sounds good and that lfo is much faster than a ms20..

TB or not TB

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

mine is waiting for pick up, I'm very excited. I have all the parts already for the CV mod. Party time.

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

Any Canadian robots know where to buy one online from Canada?

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

I love this little beast & the sounds that it's spitting out. Nice to freak out with it in public transport together with my mobile & some heavy weight Dubsounds. Cool to create freaky bassdrums with it & to put as an external filter between a synth. Here a jam with some heavy Monotron filteraction:

Re: New Korg Analog Synth

My tech wanted to borrow it because he was so impressed, couldn't say no,

It now has cv/gate and filter cv!
