Cool, that would be great thanks Koova. Actually, do you reckon you could give me his contact details? Yeah, guess you have to be quick with these things. It was pretty amazing to play with. Super organic, kind of like it had a mind of its own. Ah well.

Pm'd you with his details. He also fixed Meschi's MFB and DIY's most of his own modular stuff

Charlie is a very lovely guy.

Cheers guys! I may give him a shout for a few bits and pieces. Is he fast(ish)?

Went round, showed here how it works, tested it (fully working), had a chat etc. Didn't bring cash as it was a slightly dodgy area, agreed to meet her the next day and by then some fucker had phoned her up and told her it was worth much more. What a bastard.

She was going to be getting a very decent price for it (around half the top going rate on ebay) considering she got it for free anyway...

She should really get the going rate though, which for a fully working EMS Synthi AKS would be at least 5500 Euro. I wouldn't consider the guy telling her the truth about the price to have done anything wrong. If somebody came on here selling a fully working TR808 for 400 Euro I think it'd be fair to let them know they normally go for at least double that.

Mm, interesting question. She had got it serviced a few years ago and had apparently been advised on the price by a couple of people recently who told her it was worth around 3,000 GBP. She was asking a little bit less than that as she wanted a quick sale. So it wasn't like it was going for an absolute bargain plus she was making a hundred percent profit from it.

Anyway, she'd done her research and that was the price she was willing to sell it for and was asking. If she wanted to let the market decide she could have put in on ebay or whatever...

Part of the fun of buying this stuff is getting the odd deal. It's the same with any second hand market really. Sometimes you sell something for a good price and vice versa. I imagine you've probably snagged the odd bargain in your time no?

I don't think the guy who phoned her did anything wrong but I just think he was being a bit of a dick.

Yeh maschine is excellent. Soon to take VST plug ins also. Marco, it seems pretty light on resources basically you don't even need to look at the computer just have it connected at the other end of the USB cable and forget it's there if you like. Of course you can always look at it if you need further detailed editting where is acts like a giant display for your groovebox. I think this is the best purchase i have made in a long while.  As far as MPC compares i don't mind the MPC and i did own one for while but with MPC you can only keep bars as same length when looping which was a deal breaker for me. Maschine surpass it in many ways also. I can suggest to go into a store and test it out.

I have suggested different track lengths to the guy who is creating the MPC JJOS - i really hope he can implement it some time

as for the maschine - it looks good, but the idea of being connected to a computer still isn't appealing

I was skeptical to begin with but I am using the 1.6 Beta and its"Preeeetttty good". Intuitive to use, the workflow is quick and you soon forget about the computer.  Still delving into its delights but its a keeper. As far as a resource hog, it depends what your doing really, if you have multi efx on each sound it does suck up the processor, but I am yet to get anywhere near to that.
sounds Tight but i need to do comparisons with my MPC60..

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Thanks for your thoughts Compu, Wasu and skkater. For now I am happy with what I have which is computer-based except for a Microkorg and a TG-33.

Did those customs mofo's charge an insane amount for it?
I had that too with my P5 pot upgrade for my p08 PE, they wanted something like 150 euro on tax and duties (UPS) for 50 plastic knobs. I refused, they came by my house 3 times more, still refused to accept. ( they even freaking lowered the amount each time!!!) then I saw in the tracking they delivered it to someone in Germany, I mailed DSI's Tracey and I got em via lettermail instead of packagemail and all for free ...

It seems that UPS has a taxchart with the various upgradekits from DSI's but dont care to bother to verify the contents/declaration and/or if it is an repair shipment.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Yep, but it was "just" about 80e for board and knobs. Still ridonculous.. I guess 25% VAT is included in that so at least i can deduct that shit. I was already like, 250e for some fucking pots, thats way too much but ordered anyway. So it went from too much to way too much, ah shit big_smile

finally got some money together for one of those:
http://news.musicstore.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Mode-Machines-x0xb0x.jpg
much fun so far... gonna AB it with a real 303 some time next week.
only the build-quality could be a bit better for the price.. lot of plastic, potis seem a bit untrustworthy
but there are updates for that i guess, if i keep it
