Re: your last purchases of records

Nice score yesterday. About 200 records for 100 dollars. And I might go back for more. I don't crate dig much anymore but while I was at a pawn shop the other day looking for a line mixer, a copy of "Crazy Family" poked itself out of one of the boxes and I felt the need to investigate further.

Nothing ultra super rare and mindblowing but lots of great Canadian disco and hinrg, synthpop and record pool labels from the 80s like Disconet, Hot Tracks, Rhythm Stick, Power House etc... Almost everything in super perfect shape too.

Coupla dozen italos too. Some old rave and early ambient, bit of house... Threw a bunch up on my Discogs store last night.

Yeah, such an excellent song. I haven't bought anything on MW, because those releases are always so expensive.

Excellent release. Minimal synthpop at its best!
Or judge for yourself and listen to the samples here:

@Klart
Go and try to find the original vinyls and come here again to say that Minimal Wave is so expensive.

True, but for 25 Euro I can get a lot of other vinyl.

Re: your last purchases of records

About Minimal Wave, they're a bit expensive indeed, but as they release outstanding stuff, it's pretty much worth it. Though I can't afford to buy every single release.  It's indeed a matter of priorities. Some times I use 25 euros to buy a lot of interesting stuff for cheap prices i.e 1 to 5 euro, but some stuff can't be bought for that kind of prices.

Dee Dee - Sweet, Sweet Lovin' 12" (Bovema Negram)
Billy Moore - Go Dance 12" (Emergency)
E.M.A.K. - A Synthetic History of E.M.A.K. 1982-88 2lp (Universal Sound)
E.M.A.K. - Tanz In Den Himmel 12" (Soul Jazz)
Bruce Haack - The Electric Voice 2lp (Stones Throw)
Laban - Caught By Surprise lp (Mega)
Frank Tovey - Luxury 7" (Mute)
Hot Chocolate - Put Your Love In Me 7" (EMI) (Dutch PS)
Boney M - Do You Wanna Bump 7" (Hansa)
Trans X - Message On The Radio 7" (Polydor)
Baccara - Koochie-Koo (CNR)
v/a - She's Got Everything / Car / One Weak Moment / Snake Boogie 7" (Orgie Records)
(with Avengers (3), Coïtus Int., The Nightblooms, The Comedown)

Well i think it's a bit expensive too.. for that price you can at least aspect some good mastered stuff on vinyl, unfortunately it isn't always this way, like the Video Boys lp.. this record sounds like it has been pressed straight from cassette to vinyl.

On the other hand, i think it's great what she does, bringing some old cassette stuff back alive and spread it with the world.

Re: your last purchases of records

I agree some of the Minimal Waves-record may sound better for that kind of money. Not sure though what the possibilities have been. Are there masters anyhow and how do they sound etc.? I think this lofi-sound was mostly was the best thing possible then and inherent to the often used lowbudget recordings. But it's also like there's mostly very little (minimal ;-) equipment used so little could go wrong... To me that lofi-sound has a charm to it.
There are ofcourse also examples of minimal synthpopbands with reissues that sound great. I imagine they just made better recordings back then.
