Topic: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

Hi,

I realize this is a lousy way to introduce myself on this forum, but here goes:

I picked up a Siel DK80 for 50€ at a garage sale. Optically, it looks great. It powers up, the buttons and leds seem to respond correctly. I can select different patches through the programming unit. Only problem is: it makes no sound! Nothing seems to come through main outs. However, when I plug in headphones I hear a very faint modulated hiss when I press the keys.

I opened it up and nothing seems to be loose or leaking, but that's about as far as my electronics skills go  hmm

What are common problems with these units? Or am I just using it wrong?

Thanks

Revok

Ah, another Belgian! Welcome to RFR.

Can't help you I'm afraid, I'm rather unskilled when it comes to these matters.

Honey, in the morning the bees are singing and the birds are stinging in an open head surgery.

Re: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

could be the main dco, which is pretty tough to find: SGS / ST Integrated Circuit M112B1

check out this related document: http://sounddoctorin.com/synthtec/siel/dk70.htm

this page lists the exact rare chips that it uses:

Re: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

Assuming one of the chips is busted, I'm looking at servicing and parts costs which might well surpass the actual value of this synth.

Looks like I'm stuck with a 19 lbs. piece of useless plastic  hmm

PS: Thanks for the warm welcome, Klart!

Re: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

well, you could always have a garage sale of your own and ask 50 euro for it...

Re: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

Now there's a tight plan!

Re: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

hej fellow robot,

isnt the siel dk80 the same asa the suzuki sx500 (questionmark) if it is i have a busted sx500 (and 2 functioning) laying around here all the chips are in there so if it is the same as the dk80 you can have it for free to revise your dk80 i live in yerseke zeeland holland

cheers

Do synthesizers dream of electronic drums?

Re: Toasted(?) Siel DK80

Hey Remco

Thanks for the offer. I'm not technically versed, however. So I wouldn't be able to do jack shit with the sx500 you so kindly offer. Even though I'm quite sure it does contain the right parts.

Thanks, robot!
