Was thinking the same..

@ ronin, its possible that this is the case. Have some cold symptoms and went swimming 2 days ago which also causes problems from time to time. Few years ago I had inner-ear troubles and got some nasalspray from the doctor that fixed the problem of less detailed hearing

a friend of mine reminded me that i always had my walkman with earplugs in when i was young on a too loud volume.
wish i havnt done that  neutral

Re: Tinnitus

I now know for sure that i have tinnitus; left ear much worse than right. Recently moved to a massively noisy main road running out of London, and so wearing earplugs at night. Only through this and now knowing what tinnitus is did I realise I had this!
I knew there was a constant buzzing when in my old flat but i thought it was coming from outside. its totally fucked and freaking me out a bit since i hear it intensively at night and now im conscious of it through the day. I will never ever go to a club without plugs in now, never.  sad

Re: Tinnitus

wow, I've had it for years now, but last night after I was going to bed, I noticed this 'alarm bell ringing' sound in my right ear that was never there before (it had always just been a kind of 'eeeeeee' sound for me, for lack of a better description), that was different from anything I've ever felt/heard before.

couldn't fucking sleep a wink all night, though I suspect part of that was psychological. got an appointment with my GP tomorrow to have it looked at. since it just came on suddenly I'm hoping maybe it's a symptom of something else.

definitely more of an 'alarm bell ringing' sound this time which is different...

I can hardly even hear it over the noise that my laptop makes when I'm sitting in bed, but as soon as I switch it off it's there. using earplugs seems to help drown it out a bit...

Re: Tinnitus

well it turned out that I had so much wax in my ears that the doctor couldn't even see the ear drum. After having to wait over a week, I got my ears 'syringed' yesterday to clear out the wax. It took a nearly a full day for the pressure to clear after the syringing, but now finally, the ringing has gone. That was a sleep deprived week and a half that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. For people who're suffering from that on a long term basis, I truly hope that soon a cure will be found for this horrendous condition.

In a way though I'm glad, as it's given me a scare - I will now never, EVER, listen to my earphones at a loud volume. I can guarantee that for the rest of my life....

Re: Tinnitus

earphones have been jettisoned by me since last year.

my tinnitus is only mild but the doctors still piss me off. all they have ever told me is its untreatable so learn to live with it.
after a year i now realise that drinking wine makes it worse so i lay off that, also if i fly or take a train that goes through lots of tunnels my tinnitus disspears for a few days. i have explained this to doctors and they recommend i fly more. some fuckin treatment!

keep hackney crap

Hahaha... and they call themself doctors..

Luckilly ear ringing for me has always disappeared within a few days after a loud night out. I can't imagine having the constant peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep all the time. Hopefully someday they can just reprogram the hearing, just like removing dead pixels or something. Good luck with it guys!

Re: Tinnitus

Yeah,  alcohol in general does not help, as it dehydrates and blood gets thicker.  Also Ginkgo extracts can help.  I'm not sure if it's not just the placebo effect.

Re: Tinnitus

man, this thing is fucking with my head: sometimes I think I'm hearing the ringing again, but I'm not sure if it's just a psychological thing... I'm going to have to try to stop fixating on it....

Re: Tinnitus

right, sorry to go on about this, but I thought I'd mention this...

I was driving myself a bit nuts yesterday constantly trying to pay attention to this noise to see if it actually was something real or if it was a figment of my imagination. I ended up going out to a have a few pints to calm myself down, but then I bought a carry out after that and got really drunk. When I was sitting in my bed drinking and using my laptop, I swear I couldn't hear the noise at all - although maybe that's just the alcohol making me calm, but clearly there seems to be a link here between your stress level and how severe the noise is.

I woke up this morning about 6 or so to go and do a piss then went back to bed. Didn't notice the noise at that point. But man, when I woke up again at about 7ish, the noise was back with a vengeance, and definitely not just my imagination!

Is there a link between this and alcohol? Done a bit of googling on it and for some people there does seem to be.

http://lets-beat-tinnitus.co.uk/blog/al … s-effects/

some folk are even saying caffeine can have an effect on it. I'm gonna completely detox from alcohol and caffeine for a month and see what happens. I've found a program called Aire Freshner that plays natural sounds on repeat - I'll just start using that at night to block out the noise and hopefully reprogram my brain. It seems to be absolutely key that you don't get stressed about it.

edit - but yeah, of course, the not getting stressed part is the bit that's very much easier said than done smile

Re: Tinnitus

I have slight really high frequency buzzing in my ears all the time now, kind of like tv was on or something. Not too loud and it doesn't really bother me too much and I can sleep well. After a loud club night it gets a bit worse though but calms down soon. This has happened to me because I was producing long time mostly on headphones .. Of course club gigs might affect it too but I really think it's mostly down to headphones

Re: Tinnitus

well, I won't drone on about it too much, but I think that I've managed to establish that my problem is Hyperacusis, which may have been a result of the syringing that I had done. I've got a referral to see an ear, nose and throat specialist on the NHS, but I dunno how long that's going to take.

In the mean time, the main problem is sleeping, I'm just using anything that I can do drown out the ringing. Bought a desktop fan today which seems to work quite well. Managed to get more sleep last night and today (have the week off work) than I have done for a few weeks now, so I'm a lot calmer about it today. It's been very distressing though...

Re: Tinnitus

I don't understand why people still don't use easplugs. And what I really not understand is why clubs are still able to play such loud.

I know! I can understan that you can't damp the volume of a band with drums and stuff in a small bar or that you have to have loud music in a club with a large dancefloor if there cannot be speakers all over the place. But i can't understand why many small clubs or bars have to have the volume so friggin loud that people have to yell to hear what each other are saying.

Some weeks ago I was at a weddingparty in Amsterdam (Studio Desmet) and they had a large display showing how loud the music was in dBA (I thought the law in Holland was maximum 103 dBA). The meter didn't go beyond that and it was loud enough to me. More clubs should do that and if they're metering, make it more clear with a display or something.

Could be the same as 103 dbA. (the metering is filtered)

that would depend on whether the meter was reading Peak or RMS (average) scale.

103dB Peaks wouldn't pose too much threat whereas the same dB RMS would be quite uncomfortable if not painful.

Re: Tinnitus

these + this will help you a lot if like me your tinnitus is annoying enough to disturb your sleeping.

you can install that thing on the iPhone and put a timer on it so that it will automatically switch off and not wake you up when you've managed to fall asleep.

I think I'd actually use these even if I didn't have tinnitus as I was always a pretty bad sleeper anyway.
