From the electro sound of Donald’s previous band Drexciya to the contemporary classical music style of Calabi yau Space Dopplereffekt are one of the most important acts in modern music.

This is a performance that has to be seen.

TOP TIP

Glasgow bots dont get too raging for this. Saw them in a Chruch in Liverpool and it was very slowly evolving and spacey set. The last time they played Glasgow the warm up dj played Detroit party bangers and the crowd were expecting some Pornoviewer etc. They all looked a little shocked at the soundscapes.

A paranoid is someone who knows a little of whats really going on.

Yeah, was thinking it'd be the same kinda stuff as what you heard in Liverpool Andy. Will prob still pop down for it.

Re: [GLA] 17/02 Dopplereffekt Live @ Glue Factory

gerald doesn't play any of the old 90s stuff these days and hasn't for a long time.   the last dance-type beats performance i saw was back in 2001.  He's pretty focussed on the abstract soundscape work now.
Saw them in Glasgow a couple of years back too and again, a good % of the crowd were just waiting for the kick drum to come in.
Their performances are brilliant and its a real lesson in futuristic music as every decent producer in glasgow will be there taking notes but the promoters should really try to find a better way to present this than stuff the act in between dj's rocking the same old detroit/electro beats.  Never been to glue factory though so its perhaps a good venue for it

Exactly...anyone even remotely familiar with what dopplereffekt have been doing over the past few years will know what to expect. Smoke a big phatt joint, space the fuck out. I know Ean, our Void representative is gonna 'try' and play more spaced-out stuff...altho he isn't exactly known for playing that, fuck knows what those monox tools will play tho.

Re: [GLA] 17/02 Dopplereffekt Live @ Glue Factory

I;ve seen doplereffekt a numbe of times, but nothing polarizes the crowd to me more than two of them...

Bad - Plex 2010, London - Dopplereffekt playing in Corsica Studios in the middle of a well known techno night. People playing bangers before hand and afterwards. I enjoyed it, but people getting techy and talking non stop the whole way through. Then had some lad shout out, "play some fucking techno" to many a horrified stare!

Good - Sugar Club, Dublin - 2008/9? - Sit down venue, comfy seats, tiered to the top of what seems like an old cinema room, candlelight everywhere, table service with cocktails and shit. The warm up was some guy from U-Ziq playing real nice ambient stuff to the back drop of vietnam war footage and it was on at like 7pm before everyone went out for the night. Perfect place for that shit.

**they played a good few 90's tracks at Bloc when they played but yeah, I never expect that sort of shit from them anymore.

An absolutely phenomenal gig.

Dopplereffekt played in a decent sized room, supposedly after it was consecrated with two hours of total silence beforehand.
Glue Factory's a great venue. Good grim surroundings to add to the overall feel.
The room they played in was a decent size, just whitewashed breeze block walls. The place was pretty cold, like 5C or so, which really added to the atmosphere.

The visuals were amazingly engaging. A mix of 3D animation and video of the two playing scientist in lab coats. The colours were intense, flooding the room in primary hues.

Dopplereffekt went down quite an Arpanet line. No samples were used. The sound system was all encompassing. The bass shook the entire room, coursing through the hundred- or so - patrons.
The gig was punctuated with different versions of Non Vanishing Harmonic Spinor which worked really well as progress points.

There was a wonderful contrast between the distance of the performance and  the intimacy of the venue with the physicality of the music. Thoughtful subject matter excellently executed. Best thing I've seen for a while.

Wee Ean and the Voidists played some great tracks too!

Re: [GLA] 17/02 Dopplereffekt Live @ Glue Factory

Seen them at Fabric and the Sub Club and now at the Glue Factory.
Personally I thought this was their weakest performance of the three.
Also the sound system in that room was not really suiting their music and it was way too loud.
Still better than the average typical liveact/party stuff and very futuristic.
Glue Factory is a nice venue too....

Can't say i could give an opinion either way as i was too sick to make it sad ...

Re: [GLA] 17/02 Dopplereffekt Live @ Glue Factory

hmm.. to me there's nothing futuristic about what they do.. its not bad at all, but it's been done since about 1970, and a lot better too...

Re: [GLA] 17/02 Dopplereffekt Live @ Glue Factory

You sound like describing this from a very technical side rude... but its about the GESAMTKUNSTWERK here man! The way they stand opposite of each other, the masks, the visuals and the music altogether make it what it is: a great live act.

*yawn*
sorry, no pun intended, but when will these discussions about "futuristic" and "innovative" end in electronic music forums?
Who gives a f#ck as long as somebody likes the music?
