thx for replies  smile

pretty underrated genre imo (and seemingly ignored from the disco revival.. maybe that is a good thing)

From what I heard Hi-NRG was (and still is) pretty big in Mexico and from what I've seen in Holland it's well appreciated in the italo-community also. Castro Boy was pretty "hot" for a while and even had a repress on the Panama-label and ofcourse the mighty Bobby-O and Lime are still popular. Still a lot of "unknown" stuff also as your mix prooves. I sometimes think though Hi-NRG is "too cheap" (one dimensional) or coming on too strong (?) which might be a turnoff for some tastes...

Re: Obscure Aerobics (80s HiNRG mix)

Can someone (or George himself) tell what's that damn fine Spanish-track starting @ 29m30s after De Rogue - Nightlife Fashion and before (what a great transition when the bassline of Duri Duri kicks in b.t.w.!) Click – Duri Duri (Baila Baila)?

Thanx already!

Re: Obscure Aerobics (80s HiNRG mix)

Thank you George!

I love your previous DJ is capitalist mixes and since I am aware of your passion for Italo, I look forward to your exploration of the Hi-NRG genre that I like too.

What an excellent way to start a long and rainy day at work! smile

Re: Obscure Aerobics (80s HiNRG mix)

As mentioned already, Hi-NRG is HUGE in Mexico.

About a year ago, I had the pleasure to eat dinner with Pascal Languirand, the man behind Trans-X (who had a huge hit with “Living on Video” in 1983), when Trans-X played live in Stockholm and I was DJ at the club that night.

Pascal lives in Mexico since some years and he told me about the amazing Hi-NRG/Italo scene there.
The legendary club “Patrick Miller” (founded by the DJ with the same name) in Mexico City is apparently filled with up to 2000 people EVERY Saturday.

When Trans-X visited Stockholm (and performed a brilliant show, much better that I expected), we had like 90 guests, as a comparison…

Re: Obscure Aerobics (80s HiNRG mix)

Hey, cool mix! Thx alot! big_smile
Always thought, that Hi-NRG is not sooo much my cup of tea, although I somehow like the Bobby Orlando stuff (it's only, that these stuff is probably the kind of cheese I like less... - best cheese still is the italo stuff and also Freestyle music!!)...
But this mix is really nice - kinda "underground Hi-NRG" - that's the ways it's gotta be!!
Especially like the the 2nd track - Tony Caso - Dancin' in heaven...

I think sometimes it's better to listen first and have the tracklist after  tongue

Yeah, it's ok... Your mixes are one of the few that I always would hear without a tracklist... wink (same with Peet Need and Intergalactic Gary - in the early days also David Vunk's and of course I-F's mixes)

Anyways: I very curious about the tracklist... Already figured out some cool tracks in there, which I would like to know!! (especially some (short) track with "Sex in the night" or something and another with "My little Japanese boy"?!?)
I guess I from the 1st 30 minutes I only know "Sylve - I got you to blame". big_smile

Re: Obscure Aerobics (80s HiNRG mix)

One more for the road! smile

Ah, just couldn't find out that Jane Hill - Radio-track but that's officially (on Eyes-label and from Italy) italo but when you play it in a Hi-NRG mix it might be just as well be Hi-NRG just like Alex C...prooves again it's not all black/white.

Yesss, I sneaked a few italos in there too wink guilty as charged!
I always loved Jane Hill but because it's much faster than almost all other italo records, I could never use it in a "pure" italo mix.
Same with Lidia Tarnowska (my favorite discovery of this year), Italian production, but really HiNRG (influence from Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy)

Re: Obscure Aerobics (80s HiNRG mix)

that the waiting love record on thick? picked it up early this year randomly  to make up the numbers on a discogs purchase. great record and a good price.

speaking of bronski-beat influenced italo, a.avenue - golden queen has popped up a bit on discogs recently. wonder if someone is going to repress it or something ? hopefully so.
