It really is the dark side of Italo business, I contacted the guy who made all the Ryvon etc represses and he told me he made the Regina reissue, but it is now sold out and will never be repressed.......... but he will kindly sell me his personal copy for 50 euros, plus shipping............LOL

strange business model

Re: Why are Italo represses (bootlegs)so expensive?

Selling represses for that kind of money is a flagrant insult of the customer.

is the sound quality really so bad as described on discogs? just curious..

Re: Why are Italo represses (bootlegs)so expensive?

i wouldn't say it's bad.
it suffers a little from excessive limiting. just doesn't punch like it should.

Re: Why are Italo represses (bootlegs)so expensive?

the original doesn't sound that great neither, a bit muffled. The repress def. doesn't sound worse. It's just a comment from someone who can"t stand that his expensive original Clio is being repressed, that's all.

Oh, I see.
I did check Discogs before asking but couldn't find it then.
But I have noticed several times lately that the search function on Discogs sometimes doesn't work as it should.
Thanks for the info, I'll order a copy elsewhere.

maybe because it is expensive to press records and its nice to make a small profit for the label and the artist.

you are damn right.

since i am running a label i know the deal:

if you sell 300 records in 180 g vinyl with full sleeve for 10 euro you make nearly NO profit.

I agree, the overhead is too high to do limited runs of anything and actually break even while maintaining a friendly price. Unless you do runs of 1000 or more and have a terrific distribution network behind you, like Radius did.

Anyone who thinks they're gonna make a fortune by repressing an obscure Italo favorite on 250 copies is either a moron or a terrible businessperson. Likely both smile

So wouldn't automatically assume that the folks who do these grey market represses are Camorra gang members, but rather that they are aficionados like you and I who'd like to see some of their investment back at the end of the day.

Re: Why are Italo represses (bootlegs)so expensive?

i think the people do it for the love it first and then if there's some profit ok .

I thought that this was going to be an official re-issue via the Archivio Fonografico Moderno/Mannequin sub-label...http://www.discogs.com/label/679300-Archivio-Fonografico-Moderno

But judging from the discogs reviews these 'official' re-issues are poor quality...maybe a bootleg would be better, or wait for Dark Entries to do it properly.

Anyway hasn't the italo horse been flogged to death enough?

Re: Why are Italo represses (bootlegs)so expensive?

Through my experience,
the reason, why some represses are so expensive, is SOLELY THE ITALO DISCO AUDIENCE.
Why? Because most, if not all, are fanatics.
They want the record now, not tomorrow. Not after a month, no way.

They want it REGISTERED SHIPPING, SAME DAY DELIVERY, DELIVERED ON THEIR BED.

The Italo disco market is based on the idea of: "Rare / Mega Rare / Super Rare / Ultra Rare"...basically anything that can lead (young - and foolish as we all were?) vinyl addicts to be convinced and be driven to participate in a lifetime fairytale where a record copy is drawn out of an attic, or some old lady's old house, or cellar, gets immediate attention, gets priced  and is now repressed, as it was for so long hidden like a mystery from the eyes of all mankind to be revealed in 2014.

This psychological beahaviour (on behalf of the buyers) became know to all those who wanted to be involved in repressing (sellers as well) so...be prepared for those prices. My opinion: Dont buy. You will live.

                                                           W A I T...the price will drop. It will.

Re: Why are Italo represses (bootlegs)so expensive?

why bother re-releasing common easy to find stuff like Gaz Nevada, Noia, Malcom and bad girls etc?

Also, Sensitive and Oxo have both already been officially reissued!!

Also total meh regarding reissues of overexposed and overplayed tracks like Spacer Woman and IMS

agree 95% (edit: 100%). sensitive was released on id, but a different mix. and malcolm is not available for low price in decent condition.
