Topic: 2015 the year of electro.

*wipes away cobwebs*...*coughs*

I'm not going to use the term 'reveal' because that's' cliched but after picking up the new Luke Eargoggle on Borft, and the Luxus Varta on Solar one....sort of reminded me about this article, and how strong a year its been for electro.

haha.. go figure tongue

i highly respect abstract forms as a label (owned maybe 5 or 6 12"s, none left..), but since a few years ago, i haven't been following the genre as a whole at all. love most morphology stuff for example, and have a real soft spot for koova's acid workouts.. but have been selling a big chunk of my 'new school' electro stuff because rent has to be made too and i love the disco and chi-house in my collection a whole lot more.

so quite hard for me to mention a fav 'current' electro track/ep or album because i haven't bought one in years.

but the last records i was tempted to buy but didn't, were one by conforce, as versalife i thought it was. all i know that is was a bright green-ish coloured record, very moody, subtle and dubby stuff (can't find it on 'ogs right now..). and for the gesloten cirkel 2x12" on M.C. i had to go sit on my hands a time or two for me not to snatch it.

i reckon the last outstanding 'part-electro' record i actually bought was that first submersible machines on lunar disko..

Nah not fail wink

I think there a new generation of very interesting electro producers, in a genre i call "deep electro".
Of course ERP, and Morphology, VC-118A, Plant43, Versalife.
3 outstanding releases i got recently :

- Morphology - plankton http://www.discogs.com/Morphology-Plank … ter/830125
and VC 118 A on the same label http://www.discogs.com/VC-118A-Vaxna/master/796900
- Hexagon (aka Versalife) - hidden territories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y7RC2h8SxE

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

central processing unit has delivered some nice releases.
umwelt getting down on a GS vibe also.
overdose tipping away. like the lies one a lot.
214 on frustrated funk.

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

I'm with Zubeldia not buying new stuff anymore, well almost not, money is mostly the reason .. and loving the old stuff more, but there was a new one i bought recently.. (few months ago actualy), not really a "new sound" but it was nice overal

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

btw if i'm not buying that doesn't mean i'm not following stuff.. (still doing some background work for ifm) guys from brokntoys are releasing some good stuff .. also not really groundbreaking but nice electro .. boris bunnik from the netherlands is doing good stuff (has to be my fav) and indeed abstract forms is among them too.

and there was that sons guy from france

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

i bought a few old ones or reissues such as transmission and man machine,
i heard the new Luke Eargoogle (nice) and Dynarec (didn't knock me out). Furstrated Funk are always nice and i'm looking forward to the Pametex reissues. But the fact that i can find electro records around here and hear the kids playing it and Dopplereffekt is playing here this friday make me feel like 2004-5

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

I purchase very, very few new straight up electro records,(too many other things grab my money & attention)....It's a style that can be bland and generic easily, I much prefer it when other techno/house influence are blended with electro across an e.p, diversity. That Louis Haiman is more on the techno end of the spectrum, and much more likely to withstand any future record culls....

that record kuczera posted is an example(nice Gifted & Blessed vibe on that), and this ..

DJ STINGRAY 313 - COGNITION  https://lowerparts.bandcamp.com/album/d … ognition-2

Samuel van Dijk/VC-118A,...almost everything this guy poops is gold, the records on Tabernacle; deserve a place in everyone's collection,. Boris Bunnik and his one million alias as well,...

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

Good topic DumbBot.

Lotsa ace electro this year.

Really liked that Stingray release on Lower Parts. I prefer when he drops the bpm a bit.

All the stuff The Exaltics has been doing I've really enjoyed and the new LP on Shipwrec sounds superb. Likewise Solar One has had a top year. Likewise Shipwrec put out some great examples with 214 and Umwelt.

It's not so much straight up electro but the Diffuse Arc releases on Caustica Waveform and Odio have been really nice.

The Franck Kartell album on Bass Agenda is a similar beast, not straight stuff but superb.

Couple of others I liked straddling the genre was The Isolator release on Lockertmatik
http://www.discogs.com/Isolator-Distanc … se/6510263

@ Ian - And when the fuck is the visit to Spain happening? New year?

"Hey Sweden."
"They're Norwegian Mac."

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

I didn't buy many Electro records over the last couple of years and if so it were mainly reissues or some DMX Krew stuff since he is still original in his own way and has his special signature sound or an Overdose/Novamen record here and there.
To my taste Electro is not that fresh anymore. For me too many new Electro records sond like 1998 Dopplerffekt stuff without capturing the true magic.
Ultradyne is also only a mere Shadow of what they used to be. I guess Alex Lugo leaving the Duo plays a big part. The same holds for AUX88.
The last record that really got me excited was the Bass Invadurrzz on FrequeNC (which is also relatively old now).
Many artists I also really like didn't do a record for quite some time (D.I.E.; UR; Carl Finlow, the Bunker stuff like Nimoy etc.)

Maybe I'm too critical but quality records seem to appear not that often anymore  sad

Well, most of the new DMX Krew releases sounds like Dopplereffekt stuffs, which is sometimes disappointing...

Agreed...the last one I bought was the Mystic&Quantum release which I liked but I didn't buy any of the more recent ones because they did not live up to my expectations.

yes, and a half discussion about music to boot..perhap I should start another thread about how many mediocre, and bland as fuck house records there have been this year  lol

Not a fan of Ed DMX stuff's,.., don't find it that original. Whereas the Gary Gritness records i like alot , he is a hugely talented musician if you've seen the clips on youtube of Slikk Tim playing bass & keys....I still didn't buy them though, go figure.

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

Basically this http://www.discogs.com/Ever-Moving-1-EP/release/5808643 is "The other people place" rip-off. I wouldn't compare it to GB stuff which is in my opinion well produced inspired a bit by Stinson/Gerald duo but still sounding fresh and interesting. If people here care about the "scene" this Ever Moving release shoudn't be even mentioned here. What kills electro  and other genres is stealing other artists ideas. I'm fed up with all these Drexciya copycats - they should be banned.

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

From comments looks like nobody heard about James Stinson project "The Other People Place". There is nothing unique about this Ever Moving release, mostly it's just a shameful copy of what Stinson did in 2001. Mate, make YOUR OWN music next time, it's all about being creative for God's sake.

...so what's the point of copying and pasting my comment from Discogs?

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

....ok i may sound too harsh but it's really not ok to take some killer record made 15 years ago change a little bit here and there or even don't change at all and release under different name. It may sound absurd but younger people who are into electro these days may don't even know about TOPP. Criticism in this situation is justifiable i think...

Re: 2015 the year of electro.

I'm not sure about theses critics, i mean, they are pastiches, and it is (sometimes) a good thing.
Look at litterature : pastiches exist since ancient greeks, all or only some parts of a lot of classic books wink at other books or authors.
for example most of the Lovecraft mythology : made by other authors (even Stephne king did that 2 or 3 times, he even made a Raymond Chandler pastiche).
