^ An absolute classic!
wiki says it topped the charts in the Netherlands. that's crazy, cant remember hearing a "purely rhythm based" track on radio a single time when i grew up. up here it was probably ace of base, scorpions or something like that that topped the charts. (if technicolor reads this, feel free to refresh my memory).

Haha, yeah, techno / rave / gabber was a really big part of Dutch pop culture in the 90s.. and it still is a part of our "cultural heritage"..
Check this out.. soccer fans massively singing along to Speedy J's Pull Over..

hehe still strange it became so big? You must have had one big generation that jumped on the train at just the right time. Wouldn't it be more likely to have been Sri Lankan folk music or something like that (colonies). Even today you couldn't hear something like this on the swe charts. Closest would be Avicii or some absolute garbage.
Sweden was/ is so damn narrow minded, both politicians and police fought this music culture with both tooth and nail in the 90's. The police came to school and showed us clips from Dutch and British rave party's *lol*, saying that the British are 10 years ahead, we never want to get there, and explained that you could only enjoy this kind of music when your on drugs. Don't think there was a single kid other than me in my school that was in to techno (couldn't have been many in sweden at the time). One of the founders of the only rave club in sthlm was so feed up with the harassment he actually went terrorist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mats_Hinze Now 20+ years later when every hipster / Paradise hotel kid is listening to "our" kind of music, where's the police and politicians. f* sweden. Still got all those Thunderdome cd's somewhere, maybe i have some Dutch / Wallonian heritage.
The conservative elements will always want to preserve the traditions and limit the wide-scale adoption of new cultural upsetters. Combine that with the PC culture on the left, wanting to reduce everything to the least offensive and most homogeneous form possible. I'm not sure that music today has the same identity forming force it had for previous generations. Is it a sign they genuinely have less to rebel against?, or have they just become nigh permanently distracted (sedated?) by their hand-held devices providing a never ending thirty second fix?
Is about right,..

Хорошая мелодия
Mohlao - Landforms
https://chaindata.bandcamp.com/album/landforms
The otherworldy technoid sounds of Samuel van Dijk/VC-118A/Mohlao somehow fit so well with the sub-zero frozen Arctic tundra landscape that is Glasgow right now.
