Naaaah I can't go with the hummer or caddillac comparison. A hummer is too rough, the JP8 is pretty sophisticated in a new agey kind of way too...maybe the cadillac but can we go with this (since its Japanese probably):

that is a very cool car. i can totally see government officials stepping out of it at a 1988 visit to Toyko.

In '67 it might have been difficult (which synth would that be? maybe a Juno 106?):

We got it for a friend's marriage.

i can agree with automa here, a synth can have 10.000 features but if its basic sound is not to your liking, it doesn't matter. i had that with the roland v-synth.. incredible possibilities, crap basic sound.

that's pretty obvious.
i'm just saying calling the Prophet 'crap' seems a bit overstated, that's all.

Even if you don't like the character the dco's .
It's still a massive roomshaking analogue with a sweet analogue filter,
with a bonus of sporting a ton of routingpossibillities... that still help shape the sound in the end.
It pretty much has all the features you always wanted your favourite synth ( set of oscillators + filter..) to have !  tongue
Imagine those features on that (very nice btw ) SH-7 or on a MiniMoog..

But of course nobody can argue with ones taste.

If one prefers a NordLead over a Prophet 08, who can argue with that ?
Personally i think in both bass and metallic sound departement the Prophet simply blows the Nord away.
With the LFO going up to ocillator speed ( or how do you call that )  you can get pretty metallic !

I'll be surprised if you'll never hear that one patch from an '08 that will make your eyebrows go up a notch, automa smile

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

@ minimalrome: wicked looking Giulia. i think a got a little aroused seeing it.
@ pauli: of course, i know what you mean. i sometimes wish the oldies would be more flexible but for me the bottomline is always the basic sound of a synth. i'll be waiting with my eyebrows ready to raise wink until then i'll regret selling my nord2.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

It's all taste i guess.
I never loved the prophet sounds (i had a p5 rev3)
But that is just my taste and sometimes i hear other people doing nice stuff with it.
But i never got good vibes and inspiration from it.

i don't need the gear, the gear needs me

there's a vsti that sounds just like it, have you heard it?

no, haven't heard it. Is the link correct? it's just a 3secs mp3.

About vsti, I'm not that into it yet. I just want a basic setup with 3 synths to play with. the feel of the machine.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

This almost was new booty for me. Found it three minutes after it was listed. Only $750 US *sniff*

Sold in less than 15 minutes after it was listed while I was waiting for a credit increase on the phone cause the wife would have killed me if I used the joint. Not meant to be this time. Oh well.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Oberheim-OB-8-with- … dZViewItem

I should have just bought it and got some musician friends to share in paying for it.

Oh well. If I work the JX-10 hard enough I'm sure I can get the same sounds. That's what I'll tell myself anyway.

Even had the midi retrofit. Boo.

thanks! yeah sure me too but this is more fun! works greet in Eve online also instead of a mouse..
it goes wrong sometimes when i chat though and don't check what I've written. like "I've" can be "live" and shit but it's supposed to learn your handwriting. also it's only English which sucks....

it's not as fast as a mouse or a keyboard but it can do both. I think I'll change input methods from time to time to prevent RSI. do mouse and keyboard for a while then do just the Wacom for a while and change back and forth.
