Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

Well i got those but i just didnt find it come across in a very interesting or captivating way, and i didnt find it very funny. I'll give it a re-watch soon again when i have the chance. Been wanting to watch baron munchausen for a while too, one fo the more overlooked of his films. Its probably not as good as i remember though

we should start a thread discussing whether you can possibly convince someone to like something that they hate

sorry dude, I know its your opinion but I love the scarface soundtrack... big_smile

The videogame is pretty good too and has some very nice unreleased Moroder stuff on the s/track.. not sure if these tracks are new or were recorded back then.

Waaaaaay overrated: Sin City ..I hated this movie, so lame and contrived.

PS Zoolander sucks bigtime also, a comedy with no laughs.

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

thought fear and loathing was lame.... Brazil just seems a little pretentious to me... like let's cram as much awesome cinematography and themes into this movie as we can.  I guess I enjoyed watching it, but the whole thing just seemed almost inhumanly slick to me.

I think I remember liking Time Bandits a ton though smile

I got an explanation :

In 1982, Kenny GATES, a student went to the "Casablanca Moon Record Shop" a record shop in Belgium, owner was Michel LAMBOT. The two guys, music lovers, created a society for production, distribution and promotion for new music. the society is called Play It Again Sam, from Casablanca of Michael Curtiz.

casablanca moon record shop = play it again sam.

Never knew, thanks lucio robo
Too bad like most cool recordshops the Pias ones didnt survive

Wall E... well, see for yourself haha
But in my point of view a movie doesnt have to be a 'piece of art'... mostly they are made to entertain you.
Grindhouse, and Sin City bored me. But Planet Terror I enjoyed. American History X and Pulp fiction I enjoyed too

I wonder if I am entertained by the new Batman, cause I have absolutely nothin' with de Batman

Juno - I thought this movie tried too hard to be cool and quirky, and lacked the subtle brilliance of films such as Ghost World.

Music is a beautiful opiate, if you don't take it too seriously.

Zoolander is hilarious! I only know people who really hate it or really like it, though, so your not alone.

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

batman "dark knight", ... why did any of the characters do anything in that film, it didn't make any sense, just mask character motivation and plot direction with explosions and shit acting. fuck sake, what a poor film.

edit: AND is number three in imdb top films of all time????

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

i agree. while i liked it i felt it was trying to hard to be napolean dynamite 2.

where as enid and napoleans dialouge was what you would expect a teenager in their situation to say, juno's was too contrived (a la dawsons creek) and is the fault of having 30 somethings write for a teenager without studying an actual model teen for their character.

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

i didnt care for party monster, i felt it's message was lost and came in second to showing how awesome and fun it is to be fucked on drugs and dance like it is ok, causing many to not grasp the dark themes that could have been developed further, but it fed the vapid clubbers just in time for the nu-rave to start....

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

Big lebowski must have been one of the most lame movie i ever saw, really dont get the cult following and admiration it gets. Jay Leno must have loved it. At least roseanne was shameless humor that had some bite to it.

Brazil also didnt do it for me. When absurdism becomes coherent it usually fails.

'A beautiful mind'. If i am not wrong it even won an Oscar. Seeing Russel Crowe play a genius math professor is beyond miscasting a character, boy did that suck. I really wanted to slash the silverscreen...

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

Swallow My Squirt 3 - No where near as good as 2, not much character development and some obviously fake squirting scenes.

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

i didn't know that one got critical acclaim at the porn oscars.

Re: Films that get critical acclaim but are rubbish!

Full Metal Jacket

it isn't rubbish but over-hyped imo. it's too theatrical and relies too much on shock-value. and i'm pretty certain soldiers irl actually aim while shooting.
