Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

yeah the show was off the chain.  The dj(s?) before legowelt were really laying it down and mr. welt was in full form.  I'm sure a lot of sf'ers were wondering where his macbook was.  Had a really good time, but not too many good pictures.  Pool party was cool too.

That was kind of the cap to most outrageously awesome day for me:
Last final on contracts (ok that part sucked, but it meant i was free at last)
bought a bunch very nice italo and bunker 12s including hard to find ladies choice - american man
very yummy cambodian food
very high listening to said records
visit from old college homie
DA SHOW!! (kind of a big deal just considering how rare legowelt sitings in CA are)
pool party
got laid by a girl who invited herself over to my house and asked to sleep in my bed (ok, so  she's kinda one of my ex's old enemies. i'm a bad person, but love is war)

Thanks gang for making it magical.  Hope to see you LA!

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

were there any cds on sale at the show? i only noticed 2-3 copies of SLR027 on the the table with all the music gear. When i left around 2:15am I noticed 3 (relatively young?) people right outside the club, each holding something like 3-6 copies of that cd and i thought that maybe they were free or something. I guess they weren't...

I don't know what's up with the crowd at that venue, the night before Auralism Records had their monthly techno party at the same place and coats/jackets/cameras were stolen from behind the DJ booth, which is very unusual within the (smallish) SF techno scene. The problem seems to be with the neighborhood though, rather than the club itself.

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

here are my pictures. the last 3 were taken after the show had ended and into the last dj set. Only those without flash can represent how dark it was.

There was also a girl taking some interesting shots throughout the night and I asked her to mail them to me but it looks like she's not gonna bother...

Yeah they were for sale but I couldn't sell any because those fucking douchebag kids stole it, just because there is no sign for sale on it doesn't mean they are free. I am glad they didn't steal any equipment that is probably the worst it never happened to me but I know some people whose gear was stolen during gigs, really the lowest of the lowest.

Tonight there is gonna be an extra Polimex(tm) security team

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

yeah thank god the machines are safe.
Smackos you

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

was that girl wearing any underwear you think?

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

amazing amazing! was my 1st time getting to see legowelt live and i invited my brother and his friend who do not like dancing so much or going to shows at all. as soon as smackos got on his machines my borhter and friend were moving! ive always been a great fan but there is nothing like the live experience. unfortunately the mountain bar had him play for only 40 minutes!!!!!!!! i am extremely disgusted and disappointed right now. i am embarrassed for the city of los angeles to have such an amazin performer come from over seas and to only have him play for such a short time is a disgrace. was a great 40 mins none the less and i'm glad i got to meet danny and smac as well. hope i can see you guys over at the ifm party! cheers and thanks!

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

40 minutes for a liveset is pretty normal, no?

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

i'd say an hour + to 2 hours is normal especially for the closing set. but the thing is that the bar closes at 2 am the guy stopped him at 1:40 am they said the upstairs was closed but the ridiculous music on the bottom floor was still open.

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

So did legowelt dj or play live? Who only got to play for 40 min? How long did TLR play for? Typically live sets only go for about 40 mins, like starb said.  I would find it hard to believe the people that did the legowelt and TLR show wouldn't let them play long sets or be deck hogs per se...

Oh, how was the turnout?

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

west coast, east coast...you musn't ignore the non-coasts!

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

the SF show was around 1h15m, so I guess we win or something? =)

hey smac, next time i see you in person i'll introduce myself now that i recognize you!

ramos, sorry, my point-and-shoot camera fails to capture details of the underwear :P the dress was actually becoming semi see-through at times, depending on the lighting.

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

haha, that'd be awesome karagiozakos (but i hope you have another name with less syllables).  I met cloud9 at the show last night, who was instantly my friend because he is a fellow robot.  I'm very friendly, so don't be shy yall!

The sf show was definitely longer than the la show and legowelt's set definitely felt truncated, especially in comparison.  They turned all the lights on maybe a half hour into the set but he kept playing for another 10 minutes or so.  Wonder what the man himself has to say about all this, cause from our end it seemed like the security d-bags were rushing everyone out so they could get off work early or something.  Good crowd and decent turnout up until that point.  TLR had a really fun set i thought.  Glad i got to hit both shows, but i think if i had to pick, i'd prefer the one in sf.

I don't care for myself playing 40 minutes its ok with me but its kind of weird that they decide to close half an hour earlier while the place is still packed and they can sell half an hour of extra drinks, doesn't show great business entrepeneurship of that place imo (most places would go on an extra half an hour). It also sucks for the people who pay a ticket to see the show and are kind of kicked out while they are entitled for that half hour of extra entertainment.

Nevertheless it was a very nice party, I also liked the hiphop band downstairs that was on earlier

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

we usually play 45-60 min so that's not too unusual. most live acts are around this time.. it also depends on the crowd and the schedule of the organizers...

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

yea i guess i didn't realize the 40 minutes was the norm i guess i just wanted more! was great nonetheless. wish i could have got some merch while i was there as well but i will wait til the shop opens back up

Re: legowelt & dj TLR - mini US tour

Well  I wouldn't call it the norm...normally I play an hour to an hour-and-a-half, its also like a "flow" or whatever the fuck they call it, 40 minutes might be just too short in some cases.

It can be cool to play half an hour like Dopplereffekt in Utrecht back in 1998 and only play 2 songs...that was badass (with 5 minutes loading from disks in between also)
