Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Doepfer MAQ 16/3 sequencer (midi only older version) for $200 locally through Craigslist. I am liking it so far, besides the janky ass "encoder" pot for the menus. I may have to buy the update and turn it in to the 3.00 version.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

woo thats cheap. Its cool the only midi version because the extra cv/gate version was really not usefull in a cv/gate setup imo

I was lucky to score it! He said he had a bunch of people emailing him, but I beat them all to it! The only reason I want to update to the new version is to  be able to switch from the pot data selector to the digital encoder. The Pot works for shit! You can buy a 2.04>3.0 hardware/software update from Doepfer for 125 Euros.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

well, i got the eps16 in the end.  seems quite nice and should suit my requirements. I don't have room to set up much gear at the moment (tiny house, new baby) so the eps has the keys, sequencer,fx all in one.  told my friend that i'd got an ensoniq and he replied that he has one sitting in his parents house threatening to be chucked out and would i want it.  So i've now got a ts-10 as well!!  the wife's going to go nuts...

I couldn't turn this down for $150. If it's not what I want I can always sell it for at least double. Came with bag, manual and backup sound CD.

Will be way easier to use than the Proteus 2000 which I promptly sold and still came out ahead of the deal.

More importantly the Syncussion has left Japan and is in the skies.

Got this in the mail yesterday and will be a very handy and useful piece as opposed to the Proteus which just sat there. You get the presets then editable presets, a bunch of drumkits. great arps, a programmable arp and the things sounds really nice.

A lot of the presets are great too. The Solina sounds just like the string ensemble part of my organ. Which actually just made me more excited about my organ than anything. Really good modulation matrix too. I was intrigued at the time and couldn't pass at the price but def turning out to be a great score.

My absolute favorite thing is when you dig deep to the instrument section you get the basic waveforms of a lot of classic machines. Which can be layered, thrown through the filters and envelopes and then the 64 voice polyphony. The only thing about romplers is they just don't have the same depth and instability. After playing with it last night I went back to my Octave Cat SRM, Yamaha SY1 and the Solina and the ROMpler just doesn't have quite the emotion. It just doesn't.

I work for a scandinavian broadcasting company... I am actually shocked, those players go for over 1000 euros on the net! The only flaw on the one I got is that the display back light is not working but it's so easy to find replacements... I might refurbish it and sell it on...
Studer has done some amazing analog desks and reel to reels I learn...

The tape transport of studers analog reel2reel recorders are the best in the world priod. And the sound is great too. You get the sound of the tape and nothing more. Ofcourse some times that is not all that you want in a tracking situation but for a master 1/2 inch or even 1 inch a studer A80 is the cream of the crop imho.
This is the one that we have in the studio where I work.

Viasat

oh, and that tape recorder looks nice... where I studied they used to have a studer mixing desk onto which we did some signal flow lessons, I wonder how much do those analog desks go for now.

I am thinking of getting a reel to reel at some point this year, but I would probably have to upgrade to a nicer desk first to make the most of it, my Roland M24E does the job very well at the moment, but would probably be a weak link if hooked to a reel to reel, in terms of eq...

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

I've been diving into Ableton since 2007, but I got fed up with the lack of intuitivity when making music and also when playing live, so got me a new set-up for this:

Nord Rack 3
Yamaha RM1x
Moogerfooger MF-105 Murf
Moogerfooger MF-101 Lowpass filter

the Moogerfoogers are totally crazy! man, you won't believe the stuff that comes out of these monsters, especially the Murf, ideal for live

@ Squadra: you were right, the rm1x rocks like hell! I've put some time and effort into it and it's really worth it

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Did you buy that MF101 new or 2nd hand? I thought that they had stopped making them, so I figured I'd ask.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

wow that Studer console is beautiful!

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

@nukubot the moogerfooger delay is really nice as well! i've always wanted to try that Murf pedal out.

worship the potentiometer.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

as far as i know the old revox reels were made in the studer factory, hence the quality probably (it's on the manual that came with my a77, Willi Studer Switzerland). Studer desks are still used especially for classical recordings. There were some engineers at the concerthall where i worked for some time that only wanted to use those (combined with magnetostatic speakers and neumanns ofcourse ;-)). They do look incredibly nice don't they. Very 'indiscreet', if you don't know them you would probably just pass them by.
