Topic: New York City

I will be in NYC from Dec 31 to Jan 7 or so. If anyone knows of anything interesting to do or any good acts that may be performing, post it in this topic. This does include New Years Eve! Your help would be gladly appreciated...

Re: New York City

Normally it's Nicky Siano every sunday @ Santo's House Party...

Re: New York City

I don't think Nicky's party is at Santos anymore, check the website: www.santospartyhouse.com, they're maybe having a decent-sounding NYE party. Otherwise, this Easy Lover Loft Party might be a good NYE option, probably a better crowd: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event-de … x?id=77323

There's a techno party somewhere in Brooklyn with Ryan Elliot (ghostly), feel free to email me if you want more info on that one. Ryan's a good dj.

Pippiloti Rist has a big installation up at the MOMA which is worth going to see.

If you want to splurge/go on a romantic date then the NYC outpost of this restaurant is incredible but you gotta make a reservation: http://www.bluehillfarm.com/
They grow and raise all the food on a farm an hour outside the city and the head chef is in the city on weeknights so that's the best time to go. Tasting menu is $72, they give you at least 5 courses and send out tons of extra in-between bites and you're stuffed and happy. Good, reasonable wine list. A la carte dining is great as well.

Re: New York City

a few suggestions from a relatively new resident:

monkeytown is a nice, chill place to have dinner.  there are projections on all 4 walls and these long couches you sit at that line the perimeter.  but, it depends on if there's anything on the calender you'd want to check out - ranges from film screenings to video installations to music performances.  its a vj's paradise, that's for sure.

dream house - this is a pretty mental sound installation by la monte young if psychoacoustics and walking around (or laying down and falling asleep in) droney rooms full of standing waves is your thing.  it feels a lot less new agey than the web site looks (:  actually its really cool, you walk around 'playing' the drones by nodding your head and such.. very out there!

le poisson rouge - another kinda cool venue to have a drink at.  they have all different performances too so you'd check the calender.  noticed afrika bambaataa coming up, i don't really know what he's up to these days..?

too bad there aren't any 8bit/chiptune shows coming up.  those are really fun here.

the easy lover loft party on NYE seems good...

Re: New York City

Any tips on where I could find some old and cheap studio gear in NY? Craigslist and random roaming around town are my only options at the moment..
Thanx

Re: New York City

I couldn't find any in the local pages when I was in NYC, but someone else might know.

I know they just rereleased more tickets for Throbbing Gristle who will be playing in Brooklyn Thursday

and in the city Friday

It's not exactly robot music, but I'm excited.

Re: New York City

how was throbbing gristle? really curious.

also @ speculator - that's rad.  i just moved to greenpoint.  keep us posted when it opens.  i hope you'll sell used stuff (for starving students).  i'd love there to exist a store that even sells broken synths/parts of synths to rummage thru (:
