Re: Headphones

you can consider these: Audio Technica Pro5,
http://www.hifi.com.tw/images/product/ath_pro5_l.jpg
i have them, they are pretty good considering the price, about $30, but takes too much juice to be used with mp3 players, build is sturdy, they are like the clone of that Sony one that went out of production i think, but you cannot fold them...

i recommend these because very importantly, you can see the joints, it is made of metal not goddamn plastic, after my sony mdr 700 broke, i swore never to buy anymore of those goddamn plastic jointed dj headphones, no matter how good they sound you can't listen to shit when they're broke, and it breaks my heart that the mdr700 had such a good sound

Audio Technica Pro700, plastic

WHY?! goddammit, they should use the same material Glock uses in their guns in the joint part

well i'd put my money on technics rpdh1000 as my next pair of durable headphones

Re: Headphones

I have an old Audio Technica ATH-M40. I've bought it at least 10 years ago. It was 1200 FF (182 euri) at this time... It's discontinued now I think, but you still can find it in some shops,  but for cheap now. After all those years it has never been broken, yet I don't know many musician or DJ's have used my headphones since I've bought it...

That's pretty cool I must say...It would be interesting (and cheaper) to see a software emulation of this.

Isn't that basically a stereo widener/narrower?! Shouldn't you just be able to put a plug that serves that purpose at the end of your headphone/monitor bus?

Do it your way, because everyone else is just weird.

Re: Headphones

@ Robotworks, you testimony of 14! years is very convincing, but i bet your a very "gentle" person with your stuff? well dammit, the ATH M40s are no longer in production, but these M50s sure look very cool!

Re: Headphones

After some looking around i was able to buy both the Sennheiser HD25-1 and AKG K171 for

Re: Headphones

to the great esteemed mr pauli, i am glad you are liking the AKGs, buying 2 sets of cans at once, i presume one is for production and one for DJing? i use mine for DJing...

i have ears that stick out, and the 171s get clampy after one hour... i tried the 271s, but it feels like i have to press my hand against the cup to get a good fit.

however, i must inform you of the issue about the leather earpads... being an idiot, i neglected to give them a good wiping after use, after a while the sweat, oil, and plague pus from my face messed it up... and for the 171, the original AKG pads are super hard to find, whereas for the larger AKG 271, they are easy to find in stores even in Taiwanistan... the 271 also has veleour pads available.

so far i've had to make do with cheapo no-name pads, the leather kind with the "silky folds" like the Sennheiser pic above, but of very low quality, i need to use tape to keep em on the cans, and they rip easily.

the reason why i am making such a big fuss over original AKG pads because they are not the the silky fold type, they are thick untextured leather, the same as sony MDR V700....

i finally found them on thompson some german store... the pads are about 5 euros, but shipping is a prohibitive 27 euro! i mean SHIT!

also on that side you can buy a squiggly cord to replace the original...

they are coming out with the AKG 171 MKIIs, it comes with a pair of back-up veleour pads, and squiggly cord included! but they are way more expensive, and the word is it don't sound significantly better.

in closing yes i am an AKG fanboy fuck it smile Made in Austria!

Re: Headphones

I've used Etymotic for years but after a bout of swimmer's ear my doctor told me I can't use in-ear buds anymore. I'm thinking something AKG or Beyer or Audio Technica probably. What will $100-$200 US get me for studio use?

Re: Headphones

i recommend you give the AKG K141 (discontinued officially, but good chance many stores still carry them) if not you have to get the AKG K141 MKII new version, bit more expensive

they are semi-open headphones,
http://www.akg.com/site/products/powers … ge,EN.html

sorry about your ear problem, is it because you always blast the volume? i switched from ear buds to ear canal type in-ears because i find that the isolation allows me to hear better on a lower volume

i meant i can't use in-ear canal types. no i had an infection about two years ago and it came back in the same spot again. aggrivated by swimming and such being ive been in the water a lot this summer. doctors like "cans only man!"
