Haha! Really? I thought my dislike of whiney girls was a male thing.

I thought this was whiney too, not one of his best. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is brilliant.

@Discontinues: WUBC was the first book of Murakami's I read a few years back and a good way to start reading his work, I think. Unfortunately Norwegian Wood was early in his career and criticised because it was too "pop" and Americanised. The plot of WUBC will blow your mind. It does get quite gruesome at times, one of the stories in the very convoluted plot follows a soldier on a secret mission in WW2 on the border of Manchuria and Siberia, and his company are discovered by the violent Russian/Mongolian troops.

I read it a few years ago. some parts need persistence, but all in all I would recommend it, as it is an excellent story.

I'm reading Spook Country by William Gibbson just now. It seem to not break any new ground.

Okay, many thanks for the tip! I shall try it. His books are now slowly translated into Dutch too. Not that it matters to me, I prefer English anyway, but it shows his popularity.

Is it better than Glamorama?

I havn't read Glamorama yet...I read American Psycho last year, but I was given Less Than Zero for my birthday so i've been reading them in order. Will advise when I get to Glamorama.

If you havn't read his other books though, reading them in the order they were written is cool because a lot of the characters tie in in some way, or make cameo kind of appearances throughout the stories...picked up on a lot of them in American Psycho especially
