Akira

that one is really great indeed

my favs:

Morricone (except the spaghetti western stuff) like Exorcist 2 and so and Conan ofc smile
Fabio Frizzi - all his horror and suspense scores
Clint Mansell- Safari, requiem for a dream, foundation etc
Howard Shore - Existenz
Philip Glass & Kronos Quartet
John Carpentor obviously
Dario Marianelli
Goblin
and a whole bunch more

mostly all italian scorewriters, they seem to beinfluenced alot by catholic symbolism and doctrines from the vatican...
Great story tellers in sound and video

Great for opening a thread for this as there are much crap-soundtracks also!

Same faves of mine (not mentioned yet):

Angel Heart
Doctor Who
Terminator 1
The Singing Detective
Jeff Wayne - War Of The Worlds
The Thing
American Gigolo
Scarface

and recently found Tangerine Dream - Thief which is pretty nice also.

Re: movie soundtracks

oooh, there are so many:

the andromeda strain soundtrack is great, and the vinyl packaging is really sweet.

masaru sato's yojimbo soundtrack is probably his best. lots of intricate, very loud brass, percussion, winds. also insanely catchy.

the long good friday ost is over the top, but fantastic too:

and, of course, ray budd's get carter soundtrack is really great too (jah wobble just released a dubcentric version)

and ry cooder's paris texas soundtrack is the sort of album you'll keep with you forever

Re: movie soundtracks

Biosphere - Insomnia, No Peace For The Wicked
Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive (MD theme is breathtaking)
OST Donny Darko
almost everything from John Carpenter
OST Henry - Portrait Of A Serial Killer

"A Real Music Hater"

Ray Van M wrote:

What Carpenter would you leave behind, Ray?

Also - the Best Soundtrack Ever is officially:

... so obvious, it probably doesn't even need mentioning. the entire film is basically an excuse for the soundtrack. so other great soundtracks, like good bad and ugly and blade runner - at least the films are also excellent. with super fly, it feels like you;re watching the longest/most expensive music video ever.
