Chriss only does one run off Buchla versions because he wants one himself.
And most euro people are to greedy to pay 1100 dollar for such a module anyway because they think it is to expensive.
any module that has ''tick'' and ''tock'' outputs (or are they inputs?) has to be worth that..

Plus you can get tick and tock in fibonacci series, for your all natural occurring needs.
behringer bcr2000 to control my rack synths.
One finally popped up locally.

Yeah but if you wanna realize this with an Dopfer modular you need to get a shitload stuff.
Let me quote CBM from another tread on Muffwiggler.
Ross' question about a Euro version got me to thinking about what it would take to get close to a Pendulum/Ratchet in existing Doepfer modules, although I know that this is not what he was asking about. This selection of modules might not quite be the optimum selection of Doepfer modules to try and recreate the Pendulum/Ratchet, but it was what I found that I thought would work, while looking through the AnalogHeaven and Doepfer sites.
Cost HP
$ 90.00 8 A-118 Noise / Random
$115.00 8 A-147 Voltage Controlled Low Frequency Oscillator VCLFO
$ 80.00 4 A-148 Dual Sample&Hold / Track&Hold
$160.00 8 A-151 Quad Sequential Switch (Two needed - one for /3, one for transport)
$160.00 8 A-160 Clock/Trigger Divider A-160 Clock/Trigger Divider (Two needed)
$220.00 16 A-163 Voltage Controlled Frequency Divider (Two needed)
$ 75.00 8 A-167 Analog Comparator / Subtractor / Offset Generator
$ 65.00 6 A-164-1 manual gate (for transport controls)
$ 45.00 4 A-180 multiple
$1010.00 71Prices are from AnalogHaven.
Most people probably have a noise generator sitting around, so I guess you could remove $90 and 8HP from these totals. With the Doepfer solution, you do get other waveforms from the LFO which is cool. You lose some of the Pendulum/Ratchet transport functionality. You get a larger range out of the fixed divider in the Doepfer version, but you are more limited in the range of the variable dividers, you don't have the number set feature that the Pendulum/Ratchet has, and Doepfer VC divider doesn't seen to have a reset input. You will end up with an extra S/H cell on the A-148. I threw in one multiple, but left out the cost of the dozen or two patchcords required to create a Pendulum/Ratchet-like patch on these modules.
I'll leave patching these module up as an exercise for the interested.
Most people only see one module.
Just like they see just a vco when they think about a $1400 Complex Waveform Generator module.
thats insane, but a very cool comparison..
It just shows how deep the 200e modules goes.
That is why i someone tell people that stuff like that aint that "expensive"
If you see how much features you get with it.
Take a 261e instead.
You get
2 x vco
1 x vca
1 x waveshaper
1 x wavemultiplier
Some one did a compare with the 250e Function Generator and if you would wanted the same stuff with eurorack it would even been more money instead.
yamaha dx21 some months ago from a old drunk next door. he was giving it to his sisters child, but they could not figure out how to get a "piano" sound out of it, she didn't want it so now i have it

Nice!
*bows!*
He he, Cheers! Got it from one of the gang of four. His studio was pretty amazing had the biggest API desk I've ever seen which he has to get serviced every two weeks.
wow, even nicer.. a machine with history.. who was it?
Andy Gill, he said they were working on a new album actually but he was finding it a bit difficult to get inspiration. He got the obie for a killng joke project.
Minty Ensoniq ESQ-1 with a spare battery for $160.
interesting! andy rocks, his guitar playing on the early gang of four stuff is some of the very best i think.. such aggression!
Bow before my Oberheim-ness.

bowing... feeling pretty jealous and bitter though
PROPHET T8!!!
It got here still in perfect condition and works perfectly. Gave it a quick test this afternoon on my lunch break.
With pedals, manual, data cassette and replacement memory battery.

THANK YOU JESUS AND THE GUY WHO SOLD THIS TO ME FOR GETTING IT HERE NOT BROKEN!!!
Same as unicity plikes. Looks like you got yourself a museum piece there! Really interested to hear what you think about the sound.
@ Rude, can't say I've listened to that much gang of four. Know them by reputation alone really. I should definitely give them a go. Yeah he was a cool guy, very chilled. I think he said the problem for the new album was that he was getting a bit bored of doing the same old stuff but he didn't want to disappoint the fans. Bit of a conundrum really.
@ Cimabot, thanks man. Don't be too jealous. Sure its nice but its ridiculously massive and it has a very particular sound. Great for early tangerine dream style ambient and warm, melancholic pads but its not the most versatile of beasts. For some reason it seems to have a rather sad, haunting sound. A lot more 70's proggy than 80's disco/electro.
obx is one off the finest polysynths.
contact tony at encore electronics for a midi kit!
BTW - I too bow to your Oberheim-ness SSM. There's some crazy polysynth scores on this page.
Really interested to hear what you think about the sound.
Well for balls and warmth and punch it kicks the shit out of my JX10 that's for sure. Nice having a polyphonic VCO machine.
I gave it a couple of hours tonight and I'm pretty lucky and extremely excited. I've never played with a Jupiter 8, Prophet 5 or 10 or a CS80 or OBX. So as far as I'm concerned this is easily the best polyphonic synth I've played in my whole life. By a lot. It's very much for me and am excited to explore it more in the future.
It's so expressive, so alive, so drunk because of my playing. With the polyphonic aftertouch it's just completely insane. It will definitely make me get better as a player.
It's got an extremely loud but insanely clear output. Nice to have it clear for the softest, tiniest sounds. Probably due to the software VCAs. It also has software LFOs although you can use analog VCO2 as an LFO. The filters, Oscs and everything else is leftover Prophet 5 rev 3 guts.
I don't get the criticisms about mushy envelopes. How you play everything controls the envelopes. You can make things as loose or tight as you want to be. I had mad, fast percussive sounds going tonight. I treated it softly but I beat the hell out of it too.
The presets sounded nice but when I started playing around and programming it I got even more excited as it can still produce a very raw and beastly sound when you know what you are doing. Although I will keep some presets like the string and brass and prophet 5-y ones.
More things I learned tonight...
It was purchased on Dec 27 1983. S/N 230 so it's an earlier one. Made until 86 apparently so I find it hard to believe that there were only 300 or so made. The other guesstimate of 800 makes a little more sense maybe.
It has the last OS in it 3.8. So I don't have to piss around getting it from Wine Country and getting it installed.
It has four different unison modes. One of them being a very handy "chord memory" like my old Korg Poly 800 mk II with another being the obligatory 16 oscillators at once for a house destroying sound.
I thought the stock dual pedal would be for volume and sustain. The two pedals can control three things. 1) Switching between the different unison and tracking modes, 2) starting, stopping, looping and layering the sequencer and 3) triggering a second release. I'll still wish they were for volume and sustain. You don't even get the option.
It feels so regal just playing it and programming it. It has buttons you don't even need like an ADR one for plinky plonky piano type envelopes. It's neat when you press a key down and see wood on either side. On a synthesizer. Peter Forrest said it was the best polysynth he's played in his whole life. It certainly feels like it. It's just so massive. Everything sounds wonderful. I'm just really happy I got a deal on it.
