Just taken delivery of a MAM RS3. It's beatiful. I can't believe the sound it makes.

Me too. That's why I still have my Drumtraks at least. LOL

I been semi after one of those for a while. The MAM vocoder is cool sounding. I used it for the first time in ages a few weeks ago. Fat raw sound.

I think you cant compare them really.
The drumtraks has better editing capabilities and sounds less 'house' then the 707.
The 707 is way easier to program imo.
Best to own both
I bought another Yamaha MR10 because it was only $40. I paid three times that for my first one so I couldn't say no.

Found a Vimeo video that had one MIDI'd. You can be damned sure one of mine will be getting the treatment soon.
With analog drum machines starting to get nutty expensive this one is still a deal, I've never seen one for more than $150. I've seen about six on Ebay in the past year and generally they sell for about $100 US.
US$100? wow... I sent mine off to someone I know for $50 a few months ago. They're fun to play with, but I don't really see the attraction to them. some kind of sync would definitely make them a lot more useful, but.
Anyway - I just got a PCD47b card reader for my mpc, a 9 gig n-disk for my e64, and some related bits and pieces from scsiforsamplers.com today. Now to get a SCSI adapter for my laptop, and I'll be able to transfer sounds between my computer and my modern samplers at will.

of course you can compare them.. they were direct competitors back in the days. both are early sample drum machines (probably 12 bit) with midi, individual outs and sync. yeah, rolands are easier to program with the display, but the DT sounds better (heavier) and as a big advantage, the sounds can be tuned. its also built a lot better than the plastic roland, although roland's OS is way more stable.. my drumtraks tends to do random tuning and volume stuff sometimes. you can get a drumtraks to sound very colse to a 707, but not the other way around..especially not with the tuned sounds..

Also you can put your own chips with your own sound or just different sounds tha you can buy form sequential inside the drumtraks. Anyway, al those advantages of the drumtraks makes it less compareable with the 707 imo, even tho you can make the Drumtraks sound like a 707.
How do you make the drumtrax sound like a 707?
The cool thing about the 707 is that its made for live, you can program it live and that little mixer is perfect for live playing you can just cut the parts with one finger or something...and its also extremely light...nevertheless they are build pretty crappy.
I want to get a Drumtrax again I like the way you can program the pattern by pressing record and just hitting the pads
First disclaimer is that I've never used a drumtraks before, but generally I've found older Sequential Circuits equipment to be pretty poorly built compared to Roland equipment. I think the 707 while appearing plastic, will probably last longer than the drumtraks. A lot of people on this list probably own Pro Ones and could talk about their poor build. I own both an SH101 and a Pro One and the SH101, while plastic, is in perfect working order but the Pro One suffers from a few bad build problems affecting the triggering of the notes (and this is a j-wire one), a grounding problem that had to be fixed and a dodgy pot or two.
I think most of the older Roland stuff will outlast other classic synths. Any other opinions?
Meschi - How you feel about that MFB?
Well the Drumtrax is pretty though in a metal case not like the Pro One
400 is okay - has it midi in, out an thrue?
I got a 707 today - now testing.
Yeah 707 is istant love but I serioulsy HATE the poor power connector it keeps on loosing the jack and the thing switches off while you're programming and shit
PS
the pro one double triggers cuz of oxyd on the metal part the j wires make contact to, a pain to clean, in fact mine is still there . I cv gate it to bypass the problem

first impressions are that the sounds are fuckin beefy. definitely. its pretty small and seems quite plasticy but in a day ive gotten used to the whole 8 vs 16 thing. Id say so far its very worth the money for what you get. Ive just been playing it on its own since I got it though. Going to delve further tomorrow.

I got a 522 too...really fat sounding and worth the money if you can live with the small dimensions.

yeah its really a great thing....based on the Korg PS3100 triple resonant Bandpass filters + env follow + LFO.
Its really a secret tool for your strings/pads try it, you will be amezed how 70s it sounds. For Sylvester / Divine disco strings or Italian Zombi strings/pads....
Its sort of a phasing fx, but very nice.
It must be 707 day today, I have one making it's way to me via Germany's finest postal service........oh no wait it's DHL.
Wow!! Everybody needs a 707 ....!
