Big shakeup in the studio. Basically suddenly wanting an 808 really badly (the prices have really dropped lately) triggered a chain reaction of events. And I got a little carried away.
GOING OUT
Yamaha DX7IIFD
Nord Modular G1 keys
Unique DBE Rack
Cheap Broken Moog Source I was hoping to fix (tech is going to try one more time but this is probably headed out)
In the case of the DX and Nord Modular I figured my Oasys PCI sounded better and had more than both. Didn't really want to get rid of the DBE but 808 lust overrode it. Lamest is the Source I was hoping to revive but my friend is a little over his head with trying to find the problem. So there's a 99% chance its gone. His friend thinks he can find the problem. If he can't its already sold and going out Monday. So either I get money or a Moog Source at a really good deal.
COMING IN
Roland SH-101 (+200 USD) and TR-808
MAM ADX1 Drum Synth
Guy offered me an SH-101 and a Bassstation Rack for the Nord Modular. I was hoping for just cash but couldn't turn that down and got him to give me $200 USD instead of the Bassstation. And I'm pretty excited to have a 101, missed my 202s sound and it looks like 101 engine gives you way more possibilities.
Yamaha, Unique, and broken Source bascially turned into an 808 and ADX1. But shipping out costs coming out of my own pocket.
You won't regret the 808, It'll fit well with your other high-end gear.
I don't think I'd miss any of the gear you're selling, the Source sounds amazing though, but the interface is not so good, still this video always makes me want one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9bUKS_V36w
I'm almost tempted to get it from you!
It's already sold. My friend's shop called and said they couldn't fix it. So I sold it. And then I called the shop to arrange to pick it up because I sold it and they were like "maybe this guy at another shop can fix it. he's worked on a Source before. we're gonna let him look at it." And I told them they have until Monday morning or it's gone.
I really want that Source if they can fix it. But if it gets shipped out I won't miss it because I technically never had it.
i'd love to have a moog source... one day.
only moog I really want apart from the minimoog

that's a 1 vco synth right? 1 juicy vco and same filter as mini
1 vco with sub.
The filter is almost like the mini but can easy be modified in a more minimoog sounding one witch i can really recomend.
It sounds not that good just 1 vco but this thing sounds damn nice.
And you can grab it at aprox 650-700 euro.
the source for around 900 right? Or are prices up? more towards 1000 - 1100 ?
I think 900 should be possible for the source
Source sounds somewhat harder and a micro a little bit smoother.
Yeah I hope he can fix it. But it's not looking like that'll be the case as I've given him a small time frame now. I don't want to piss off the guy that already bought it.
It's funny that I didn't think of the 808 until just recently. I was really getting into the power of the Oasys PCI card and the guy I bought it from basically gave me every plugin ever made for it.
Suddenly it made me wonder why I had so much stuff. I wanted to pare down my studio but I wasn't sure what to do with the money. And I love analog drum boxes. I have some 70s/early 80s preset ones and I thought if I bought an 808 I'd be able to program whatever I want and have that awesome sound and have it trigger other things...
I thought of buying a Miami but it kinda looks cheap and after opening hype a lot of people are coming out and saying it doesn't sound as good. And since 808s are getting cheap now for whatever reason, why not buy one?
Yep really looking forward to that thing slapping me in the chest over and over again. I may just sit there the first night in front of my monitors, shirt off, letting that bass drum and snappy snare slap me over and over again.
And since 808s are getting cheap now
where? where? where? really like my 707 but affordable 808 would be grand...

In Holland they're getting more expensive each month. 1200euro is not rare. They go around 1000.- usually.
The 808s went up a lot in the last year, so they might be coming down slightly although in the long term I doubt the price will decrease.
Yeah the Miami looks cool but it's only not a perfect emulation.
What I'd really like to see is someone producing an upgrade for the 808 that lets you switch from play to write without stopping,
I forgot about you Euros. Ebay is flooded right now with them from $1100-$1500 US right now but you guys have all that tax and then shipping hassles.
I got mine for $1100 US shipped. Which is basically 1100 Canadian right now. Which is less than half of what one would have been last year.
It has some cosmetic issues on the case but has been completely serviced and restored. All knobs, switches and jacks cleaned or replaced, battery casing replaced. The only thing it replaced internally was a ribbon cable, he assured me everything else was original. All the rust was filed off the case and had an anti-rusting agent applied to it and nowhere at any point did it rust all the way through.
Very excited. It's not the best looking one but functionally it is apparently flawless. The seller is a techy guy backing it up with a 100% guarantee on all functions. Whcih put me over the top. And as my uncle once said to me "you don't f**k the face."
today i finally got my dx7 from repairs, payed the last part for yamaha rs7000 so now it's 100% mine and bought a polysix with midi in a very good shape
it was a good day

Not very exciting, but I picked up a TC Electronic Level Pilot (passive volume controller). There's no master volume control on my audio interface so this thing is a very welcome addition to my setup. Build quality is top-notch and it doesn't seem to have any negative impact on the sound. I'd recommend it to anyone with a similar setup.
