My favorite Italo-disco (and not wave) record for a while now:
The b-side "Fog" is such a killer track.. fat electro beat and bass-line with the theme of the John Carpenter movie... a must!! Still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

yeah the whole 'the fog' soundtrack rules! i love the disco version on the cd too.
Darkness inside is better imo...but again not very dark despite the title. In fact i cant relate to the majority of suggestions here as being dark, seems like half of these are also in "most romantic" topic. When i think of dark i think of gothic undertones, church organs and other moody instruments. City centre - profondo rosso has some of that, but isnt really dark either
fabio frizzi's 'main title' for zombie is pretty much my favorite song of all time i think. i'm not sure if it's dark enough though (and, ok, not italo) but it is certainly tragic with a dash of a light at the end of the tunnel.
should it be dark in the literal sense like 'vampire island' styles? oh yeah, and then there is that italo requirement...hrm

"Darkest" i heard maybe so far is in flemmings mix...calice - shaking romance. I would throw ghibli into the category perhaps, but i think of it almost more as an electro tune.
There are a few tracks on that mix I would consider quite dark. I love that mix though.

Though not italo, ever since hearing Kim Wilde's "Cambodia" I've been on the lookout for similar sounds.
The tracks above fit that to me. Maybe this is what I've been looking for!

true, but still, very influencial for italo later on. It fits perfectly in a strictly italo set. More than any other disco track. So I putted in the italo section of my records

"Disco Noir" or "Haunted Disco" would sound c@@l, haha!
Jody J is dark in my book. The instrumental parts especially are very melancholy, the lyrics not so much. I love that contrast though
i'll give it another spin then, see if I change my mind
