no no.. it was about an 808 for 620eur here in munich (some posts before).. though of course a ps-3100 would also be nice.. smile but can't afford that ...

plikes & tony: yep was thinking the same.. probably better i left it... but it's still sppoking around in my head... if it was for real, it would have been a killer deal, ..

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

i think with everyone these days knowing the value for what they are selling because of the internet, if it sounds to good to be true, it is.

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

besides that it is a half rotten away rusting machine that has been in storage for many years, you ll be paying a multitude in repairs if it was even a real sale

"Used mostly in studio, but stored since 1986."

dont go looking for the cheapest option, especially with vintage. There is always a reason why it is sold too cheap...

ofc there are ripoffs around that ask even the skyrocket guinessbook of record prices for what is basicly defect gear

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

oh come on guys..

first, its an AUCTION. 920 us is the starting bid. i started my cr8000 on ebay also for 9,99.. that doesnt mean thats what it sells for.
second, there are pics of the machine including the serial, so do some research if its legit or not. if these are really the guys pics, it a legit machine. hes also providing too much info for a scam.. unless the whole text is stolen (possible..) why go through all the trouble of stuff like the replacement cord?

third, half rotting away? come on, it has a few rust spots on the outside. a lot of synths do and they dont affact the inside. the ad says it works good and the sliders are good, which is the most important. it probably needs calibration and a cleanup, but thats normal for something unrestored of that vintage.

a lot of people still sell vintage gear because they have no idea of its real value or just because they want to get rid of it. or they dont care, they are not all dutchies that only want to sell for top dollar. especially in the US i've found many things in perfect working order for a real steal, even though a lot of times the owners knew they could get much more if they put it all on ebay..

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

well, let's see.

this is on a new (as in not been there last year) auction site.
there's a bunch of gear for sale, all from the same seller.
the seller is located in china.
shipping prices look way too low. try shipping an arp for 100USD from china to anywhere.

you judge for yourself.
even though evilbay/paypal buyer protection might be rotten this site has 0 to offer in that way. i'd only go for this kind of deal if it was local pick up. good luck with that in china.

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

its all a personal choice ofc, but I really dont wanna buy something that has been stored (and not used) for 24 years, you'll know there are alot of things that become broken because they just power it up,pief paf poef shorting it out. I saw they made a vid of it, so they must be have it running and such, but it doesnt sound very stable to me big_smile

and ofc 920 or so is starting price it can go way up. That says not much here. But without that whole idea of scam stuff etc, I just wont purchase such a machine that has been powered down so long. Or I must be prepared to invest some time and money after obtaining it in servicing and such. And, personally, I dont wanna do that.

Some ppl might think that is no problem, all good. But I dont belong to those ppl. I am more a kindo robot that want playing after ripping it out of the postmans hands and not wait 6 months for repairs etc before it is really reiable to use. (I might exagarate the time, but in some cases it might be even longer)

And just as the previous poster said, you are all responsible for your own stuff, you decide. we can only share our opinions on it.

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

Rude, you make good arguments, but the fact that the seller is in China should come with a huge WARNING that this is a fraudulent auction, I mean it could be worse, but It would have to come from Nigeria.

As for the details like the replacement cord, scammers now copy legit auctions so these details are  just lifted from a proper legit description made by Chuck Foster : the pictures are from chuckfoster.com/studio (as written in the description, pretty stupid!) , he lives in Bangor, Maine and let me bet he recently sold his Arp 2600 on eBay or craigslist.

@ Septic, again with the vintage bashing smile

Re: Stuff on ebay worth checking...post here all interesting you see

i know, i'd never buy it either.. my point was that just because its cheap and has a few rust spots, thats no reason to think its either a scam or a junker. thats why i said do research, it would be easy to contact this guy in maine to ask him about this. but also the fact that this is a new auction site and one seller sells more gear are not in itself things that call out 'scam!'
then again, with china rising as an economy, why wouldn't there be gearheads too that buy and sell stuff? i've seen analogue synths sold in the most unlikely places.. Mantonio who is also on this forum has a beautiful home built synth from a guy in indonesia, also not exactly a country known for its
