i think there actually is - nice record for the first 1-2 hours with noone there, to get oneself in mood, but there're enough other records that do it better - only for djs that spin (nearly) every weekend.
awesome, and painfully true a lot of the time. some techno records I have you don't notice right away if they're skipping, hehe
Jeff Mill's Circle 30 locked grooves anyone? a couple of those grooves played for a minute or so are better than a lot of full-length tracks coming out nowadays
Lately I've had the need to put on some more banging stuff when playing around with the tables, always ends up being old Black Nation, Sonic Mind, really old Surgeon and related English techno from mid-90s
There's something that's so off about a lot of Black Nation tracks, it's irresistable

Most of you peeps dont just seem to understand what techno, minimal etc is about. It is about crazy ass sounds, effects, repetition and definitely NOT about cheezy melodies that get boring after one listen! You say techno is boring but I say the contrary, disco is mostly boring! It is like pop music ... I like italo at first but then the tracks get really boring because of overused melodies ... But somehow techno is always interesting because it is more about sounds (as opposed to melodies).
Italo/disco gives you instant satisfaction because of their melodies/harmonies that trigger some emotional response in you. But this is just a lie, like a seduction ... It gives you instant pleasure but then nothing! It is safe music this way. Techno is more sophisticated and you need to get more into it before you can appreciate it.
Also you have to remember that this kind of tracks need to be heard in a club and a good dj set...
i wouldnt call all techno sophisticated . in fact i enjoy lots of techno just because it only has 4 tracks.
what does baffle me is that after 15 years , there are still thousands of kids hopping on these hard, stripped down beats every weekend. no lyrics, just robotic sounds.
this music is overall faceless and has almost no lyrics to identify with , maybe in there lies exactly its power to renew itself for new generations of kids ?
Of course there is bad and good in everything. In techno, disco etc.

I don't think that any analysis of a musical genre can justify or nullify it. There is a simpler way to look at it...
You have the pioneers, the inspired, and the bandwagon jumpers/moneymakers.
The genre peaks, lows, gets saturated and discarded, goes underground, and gets rediscovered and regurgitated.

techno is dead since about 5 or 6 years when you expect the music to develop.
But that's true to alot of musical styles, I mean Italo is dead since 1985 as well as minimal synth since 1982
maybe even music is 'dead' at all which does not mean new records can be kick ass in every genre.
The issue about tehcno is however, that it is more connected to the party scene. If there are no good techno parties then I don't like to listen to even good tracks. But if there are good parties which I recently joined then even an average techno track can revive this party atmosphere in my mind easily.
With Italo and Minimal synth this is much different.
What a bunch of bullshit, there has always been a techno freak scene. IMO the most interesting musical stuff is happening in that genre right now and I am not talking about minimal techno or german blue-haircut techno
stuff like convextion, Ross 154, BVdub, Arne Weinberg , Redshape, Syncom Data indeed etc.etc.etc. so much good stuff
I noticed a lot of people here are listening to too much inbred stuff...with the biggest joke being all that cosmic hype.

Yes that is the only techno i buy basicly. Convextion, BVdub, Redshape, SDstuff and such....

you can say techno is dead, because it does not develop, you can say techno is alive beacuse a lot of good records are still released.
But with techno it generally is the more important question: are there good parties where good techno is played?
for me, sd records is not retro at all. same goes for recent terrence dixon, and also for some "minimal" out of berlin.. nsi, t++, more berghain related sounds. plus the techno-sounding dubstep from bristol.. also surgeon stuff. enough freshness for techno to be undead
