Re: Dumbest questions (or comments) you received while DJing

"Can you play some Elton John?"

I don't get these requests. When you've been playing proper techno, house, electro, italo, disco, funk, jazz or whatever, how on earth can they think that you would play or even have anything like Elton John?

Honey, in the morning the bees are singing and the birds are stinging in an open head surgery.

Re: Dumbest questions (or comments) you received while DJing

Highlights from my residency in the back room of a Stockholm gay club.

-Could you play some schlager? (lesbian - they love schlager here)
-No sorry I didn't bring any.
-there is a "Greatest schlager hits"-CD in the other DJ-booth, if I bring it can you play it?

and

-If you don't play schlager I will beat you up.  (another lesbian)

Yeah cause it seems that the Ed banger/justice shit is electro nowadays

I once had to leave a party with security cause I was really anoyed by all the dumb requests
and when a 40 year old woman said that I should play music from Her age (i was playing 70s disco),
I replied that I havnt got any records from before WW2

Her husband apeard at My turntables a little bit later, and then it all got very aggresive
The organisation let Me out at the backdoor and gave Me some extra fee for all the troubles ive had
so that was cool from them.

It was the only 70/80s party I ever played

Re: Dumbest questions (or comments) you received while DJing

Re: Dumbest questions (or comments) you received while DJing

When I used to dj at a local bar I had a few belters causing me trouble, one night a guy kept touching the record deliberately and trying to scratch. I shouted at him this wasn't a cool way to behave, then he tried to place a pint of lager on the revolving record, so I grabbed him, luckily security quickly arrived and ejected him before I had to kick his sorry ass!

Another time a guy threw some lit matches at me because I denied his request to play Duran Duran!

And another night I was in a bad mood as people kept squeezing past and bumping the decks all night, finally after the 20th or so polite request when a girl did this I shouted at her, she was shocked and was almost crying- she said to me it wasn't her fault she was so fat!

I actually felt bad about this last incident, although it was funny as fuck.

Not a dumb request, but there always seem to be people who think it is funny to touch records or turntables while you're playing. Sometimes the record skips, which always makes me pretty mad. I once hit a guy when he did that, twice U think, and then he backed off. Funny thing that it was a pretty big guy, and I was in drag wearing a pink feather boa. He didn't expect me getting aggressive I think.

Re: Dumbest questions (or comments) you received while DJing

everytime I wear a cap someone asks if I have any drugs...  without fail

the one that gets to me is "can you play something good?"  I think I've quit dj'ing in my mind about 10 times.

Yes, captain duran is known for setting on fire a disco or two.

Re: Dumbest questions (or comments) you received while DJing

loving this thread! unfortunately can't really contribute to it because of

- heavy drinking at the bad parties where stuff like this usually happens
- my bad memory in general
- my hearing center tends to filter out everything else when there's loud music (some might call it a bullshit filter)

A lesbian girl because you know you will never have make up sex with her.
