I am very sure that --/~~~~ is still not listening to a lot of `trance with a snare` horror or awfull electro-rock-crossover sold under the electroclash flag to the joost van bellen loving now and wow crowd that ate that stuff like candy during the (short) hype.

Don't worry Gor, I heard that since Guy Tavares can dress up like a 80s hairmetal-singer and IFM/CBS has been playing wave for a few years, its now okay and "underground-approved" to like 80s wave and wear make up too wink

that's good to hear smile

now I can finally break out the mascara box.

you guys used it to cover up pimples too?

Re: Second spring for Electroclash

I went into Sephora the other day and I sprayed myself with every perfume on every shelf.

Re: Second spring for Electroclash

@starborough: your joost van bellen reference reminds me of perhaps an underlighted aspect of the discussion, that is the regional context in which the term was used. In Eindhoven, f.i. you had a monthly 'electroclash' evening that was almost exclusively playing 80ies synthpop hits, with some gigolo & co in between. Although not very exciting musically, they were massively popular, fun evenings with all the girls in their finest 80s interpretation... hairspray, stiletto's and neon stalkings galore.

No mascara boys though.

Re: Second spring for Electroclash

cmon guys... compared to minimal, electro-house and nu-disco cosmic hype, electroclash is not so bad (except for chicks on speed, who are still fucking awful).

makes me a little nostalgic even, where did I put my autographed Tiga CD???

Re: Second spring for Electroclash

i dont know about the newest miss kittin, i heard one song from the new tiga but it was just the same ol' wild-pitch glammy frentic club sound that is very de rigueur,  and the new fischerspooner looks as avoidable as their previous album.

is that a patio-heater on his head?

anyways, for those who dismissed it, you may want to check out miss kittin's solo debut, i.com.

once you get past the aggro-electro-punk-clash posturing of professional distorition, meet su be she, and the blandness of happy violentine you find some good treasures.  the best songs for me are those found on side C & D (even f 2 of them are remakes). plus you can't escape the hypnotic groove of requiem for a hit (best if played between -2 & -4).

her new album title/art/single title/pic disc makes me cringe though. i'd wish she'd stop tryin so hard to be this dark-goth-punk-riot grrrl, it feels too contrived now. she's becoming (become?) a caricature akin to kelly osbourne. (i think her latest single release has artwork by "emily the strange" cartoonist. yikes.)

one thing that always bugs me about the way people dismissed electroclash and the artists who unfortunately fell under the umbrella, is that many missed out on Crossover. maybe cause they looked like a xeroxed miss kittin & the hacker? shame, their first album Fantasmo ( http://www.discogs.com/Crossover-Fantasmo/master/46647 ) had some great tunes, like phostograph, extensive care, and lady dragon slayer.

by their second album, Cryptic and Dire Sallow Faced Hoods Blast Off Into Oblivion, they refined their lyrics & vocals to repeated mantras, and every production was pretty sick! varying forms of electro, industrial, new wave, synth pop, techno, ambient, & funky punk are impecabbly produced on this album but as a whole the album is unified by Crossover's gothic leitmotifs and athmospheres (and unlike miss kittin, their darkness is honest and the music echoes the sincerity).

and i know she and her label where never exactly electroclash, but the latest ellen allien, SOOL, looks very promising. i havent given it a listen yet (omg has it been out for a year already!!) but i really should, shouldnt i?

If you see that picture then you know allmost for sure the music is bad. Artist who need this kind
of stupid looks are not taken seriously.
