Re: customized synths

To me it looks kinda cheap a white Juno... A bit too Liberace... Definitely not something I'd do. Actually, it looks more like a JunoST21 when it's white. However, I'm all for woodensides. I'd like to have wooden sides on every synth I own...

That JD800 looks like its designed for a Stormtrooper.

Re: customized synths

@mr pauli: it depends on what they do to it. or better: how professional they do it. if they do a whole new panel with professional paint and professional screened letter print on it, i don't see how it would be worse than what roland does. but if they do some kind of overlay on top of the original, god knows what they use and how long it'll last.. i've done some of my own machines with a printed panel on photo paper and then laminated, and it looks surprisingly good, apart from the edges where you can see it.

@brian: i love wooden sides, but not on everything.. something like a modern plastic synth would look silly with them...

Re: customized synths

Yeah the case isn't so hard to get right, it's the buttons and faders i'm not so sure about.
Because you touch them all the time...i don't know.
Whatever, i'm not planning on painting my juno anyway.
Will be on the lookout for some nice pieces of wood though.
Maybe do some for my mpc too while i'm at it. Or for my sl1200  wink

Re: customized synths

@ BMX: The Pro-One mod is pretty reversible, that's a good point.

You can also get some P5 style knobs for it, from chipsforbrains on eBay, apparently the early Pro_ones had the P5 knobs.

Re: customized synths

Wasn't that a production model, or at least a custom order you could place with Roland? I've seen 'em pop up a few times on the 2nd hand market here, as well as a chromatic jx3p.

Rackmounted MC-202 (not pretty):

Re: customized synths

where has the sequencer gone?

Re: customized synths

I think it's gone in favor of using MIDI instead (I didn't and wouldn't do this mod...I love the 202's sequencer).

This modified 202 has all of the modular mods done as well.  The patching is done on the back....which is kind of weird if this thing was meant to be stuffed into a rack but whatever.

Here's the page I got the image from if you're curious: http://www.cykong.com/Synths/Roland%20M … -Mods7.htm

Re: customized synths

wasted a good 106

Re: customized synths

no way!! the 106 keyboard is a waste anyway (no velocity! pah! useless to use with any other synth)  You may as well replace it with something interesting that'll make you play things different to what you'd play on a normal keyboard layout.

plus, just think - gypsy music with resonant filter sweeps!!!

I'd really like a MIDI controller with that kind of layout, for something to play with.
I would also really like a nice long ribbon controller with options for both CV and MIDI output.

Re: customized synths

don't know about that gipsy juno..
i wouldn't be happy if i woke up one day to find my juno in that condition.
...the horror. Like finding my mpc without any pads on it..

the rackmounted 202 would fit in my rack though, as does that rackmounted moog rogue
i saw on that cykong site

i just saw too many good synths being turned to "dugmetara"
the point is that it would resemble the buttons of an accordion...
very popular here among folk musicians, who are 90% of all synth users in serbia

Re: customized synths

Harmonic Keys FTW!

+++ Dont be scared honey, thats just the resonance knob +++

Re: customized synths

Copenhagen has been flooded with east europeans and gypsies with accordions the last year or so. Which is hell annoying, as the wast majority of them can't play jack shit, but if I evers se one af them on a street corner with a juno like that I will resort to violence.

THAT'S JUST WRONG!!!

Re: customized synths

Those are so fucking cool.

http://synthwood.com/pro-one/P5265004.JPG

I think its pretty cool to have a chromatic keyboard (There are JX3P's with those too) you can play all kinds of new weird stuff with everything in the range of one hand...you can eat snacks with the other.

And 106's are pretty much expendable...but it would be better to have it on some kind of rompler or something

Re: customized synths

yeah, the chromatic keyboards are pretty appealing.
