I think that Scanner Darkly movie sucked big time. The cartoon style was cool but I think that's about it. Haven't read the novel tho. Did it work for you?

It's nice to see some criticism about Inception. Haven't seen it yet but I hate it when people collectively praise some movie and anyone who says something negative is automatically a hater. All the praising also ruins the movie experience at some level. With Avatar, for example, the hype was so repulsively massive that I chose not to watch it at all. The trailer didn't convince me and I just didn't want to watch it only because of the hype.

The new Batman movies were ok, but I think they were also pretty much overhyped. They had the darkness, despair, action etc. but something was missing. Maybe Nolan thought that Batman's growling would do the trick big_smile

Re: What movies/tv shows are you robots watching?!

others opinions shouldn't come into play before you see something. there is not one movie that can live up to exaggerated hype. you need to go in with absolutely no expectations oblivious to what others have experienced.

That's the ideal situation, of course, but I still get that "I don't believe this is that good" feeling when I watch a hyped up movie. I take it with a much more analytic approach than normally, so that I have valid arguments when I'm probably going against the hype later on. It's silly, but I can't help myself. I still want to see that one, I wanted to see it already after seeing a poster.

you seem to be obsessed by the hype smile going against it on principle is in it's own way buying into it.

you should go then smile but maybe wait a few weeks until it's out of the news and in a smaller screen with less attention

heard a lot of people talking about inception as great film (1), that made them think (2).
1. it's a good one, no doubt, maybe over rated
2. the idea behind the is not as deep as people want it to be, i mean people are looking for film like matrix who make them think and change their life. sorry this is not the one.

* although i enjoyed it
** di caprio is doing great job

That came out a bit exaggerated I guess. I'm not saying I don't sleep at night because of this or anything smile I just dislike the effect when people collectively "swallow things without chewing" in any context. Especially in movies and music, because it's supposed to be subjective. I was merely saying that to me the hype does affect at some level, eventhough I know it shouldn't.

Re: What movies/tv shows are you robots watching?!

Inception was not that great I thought.  Interesting concept made into a run of the mill Hollywood movie with some decent performances/actors.  I didn't find any of the scenes where the girl was craft the dream world particularly stunning or beautiful, either.  And there is no comparison between Inception and the first Matrix.

Still, it's worth the the price of an overpriced movie ticket.

lucky enough inception wasn't in 3D

i red the novel first and then saw the movie. if it was the other way arround i am not sure what i would think about the movie. it did seem a bit flat to me, but that is probably because i enjoyed the novel so much and the movie couldn't visualise it in any batter way then i did it myself.

Watched a couple of films on bbc2 last night.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss

http://electricityandlust.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/midnight-kiss.jpg

This was a great movie. It annoyed me a little at first as it has that sort of "try hard" style... but I was quickly won over.

Then after it was some film called Stark Raving Mad.

Wtf. This was so bad that it's probably worth a watch. The club scenes are laughable.
