ha watched that last week, the last chapter with the making of the bell is so cool.
fuck machines, just get the whole village to work on something for general use which is really pretty and usefull too, i watched that sequnce three times in a row.
hey nice one. Ive been meaning to watch it for a while. I just had a read up on all the chapters and most of what I assumed seemed to be right, but it certainly explained a lot. Ill probably re watch it next week with a better idea of it, and more than likely enjoy it even more.
andrei rublev made me think of bad lieutenant again actually, how can you make something pretty/or do good in a world that is so rotten.
both have religion as the main drive.
in the movie you never see andrei work, he is disgusted by the world/russia and all you see him do is flee, the young boy who can only cry after creating something pretty/good makes him decide to take him along and make his later best known piece.
like you i read up on him after and looked at various works, you can really see tarkovsky was inspired by him in his shots and esspecially always using decay, i've never seen a nicely new plastered wall in a tarkovsky but always paint blisters and run down colours.
Found Towelhead very engaging. Theres probably most disturbing sex scene in it ive ever seen. Might have gone over the at some point with too many incident happening to one girl and all the fucked up characters...
still i recommend.
I fucking hate nicholas cage.....
funnily enough, so do I. There' s only one endearing thing about ole Nick and it' s his harline which at one time was receding like fuck and now miraculously seems to be moving forward, he makes Keanu Reeves look like a good actor too.

is strange after hating on hollywood for so long herzog tries to make a hollywood "gem" with this and rescue dawn -both times fails. i like herzog cuz he's evil and shows no shame in exploiting misery
Herzog never hated on hollywood,
he just never gave a friggin fuck on what the current standards in movie's are.
All he did was just always going his own way, that's how he ended up with having weird movies with extreme long shots and bavarian folk actor's babbling in strong accent to each other. 
I read an interview with him in Vice mag, and there he said that he hardly ever watches movies, and that his move to LA only came because he liked the city.
Ending up making a movie with cage is still pretty unusual...
Got Fargo for 10 Euri on Blu Ray some days ago. Haven't seen it yet.

if you see any interviews outside of vice magazine youd know he compares his own work to that of hollywood saying he would never "do it that way" and also his dissatisfaction with america and american culture in general. of course opinions change

the keep - barmy film with an amazing soundtrack - feels like it's been hacked to pieces but well kult!

wanted to watch some films without subtitles for a change:
bad lieutenant - not bad but not great either. why nick cage and eva mendes?? i don't mind cage as much as most but... just didn't seem to fit here.. and mendes i think is just horrible.. i think xzibit was the best actor in this thing. i loved the animal shots and loved when the gangsters soul was breakdancing after he died.
where the wild things are - not as bad as i thought it was going to be but still didn't think it lived up to its hype.
500 days of summer - i like these type of romantic comedies and this was no exception. really like both the lead actors in almost all the stuf they do. was really funny and entertaining movie.

you should check the book 'herzog on herzog' tells a lot about the man.
edit: and a fucking excellent read.
