still one thing about all this football, it brings out the most irrational rabid xenophobia in the nicest of people.
take me for instance, born and reared in dublin. living the last 8 years in london. love the place. its where i call home. i have two beautiful (english ) daughters. some of my best friends are english but when it comes to the football, three lions on the chest and all that, it brings out the jeckyl to my hyde. it makes absolutely no sense. when the tour de france is on i'll be screaming my head off for bradley wiggins, but if he was kicking a ball...

the most contradictory thing though, most of us irish guys support english football clubs. when steven gerrard wears a red shirt for liverpool half the pubs in dublin are full of Guinness drinking fans and the other half of dublin is screaming for wayne rooney in a man utd jersey. no rhyme nor reason

so anyway back to where i started, three o'clock this afternoon, i'll be sitting in an irish pub watching england lose

i'm the same byron, for me it's just the smug arrogance of the media (and especially the BBC smile) when it comes to the english football team, for reasons that i already moaned about earlier in the thread, so i won't again... (oh aye and i'm also just bitter about scotland being shite big_smile)

hoping they'll lose today as it would be glorious to see them go out in the first round, although i'll try not to get my hopes up as i think they're gonna be pretty riled up for this game now that all this pressure is on... can't see them losing it tbh...

Famous last words... but yeah, im with you guys. Byron, i had it explained to me in a pretty good way. Basically its extreme rivalry, as a liverpool fan, you wouldd never want to see man utd win, as celtic fan, you would never want to see rangers wn. Its just rivalry on a bigger scale. And fuck all this national pride, pulling together bollocks. Just look at andy murray with the bbc, winnng = british, losing = scottish.

But i live in england too.
